LOST Thought : Eko’s Stick, Daniel’s Notebook and Ben’s Money

lost-eko-tMr. Eko carrying that scripture stick around wasn’t just for protection (but it sure came in handy). It was mainly for a faulty memory. He said he was having trouble keeping Biblical verses in his head ( and how to apply them in his life). But they also served another purpose. They were, according to lost-locke-t1Locke, physical coordinates that directed him to places that he needed to go on the Island. Example: North 3:05 was part of two verses that melded into one direction on Locke’s compass. And… it worked.

This reminded me of danielfaraday-t Daniel Faraday’s notebook and memory problems (which stemmed from the fact that he didn’t “put a helmet on” during his time travel experiments at Oxford. Oh, that pesky radiation! šŸ˜‰ ) In it, contains important points and information from the past, present and future, maps, symbols, stations, degrees, etc. Was Mr. Eko’s stick also like Daniel’s notebook?

Eko was one of the four men that were in The Hatch when it imploded (desmond-t1Desmond, lost-charlie-t1Charlie and Locke ). Are they all “unstuck” in different places, possibly even existing on different planes ( dimensions not airliners …although….? ) ” I’m dead but I’m also here” ( Charlie to Hurley) . For Eko, did his stick help him to “unstick”? ( Wish list addition : That A.A.A. would somehow be back for Season 6. )

Along these lines, I was wondering about what miles-tMiles said to ben-t13Ben about the 3.2 million dollars. Miles was the one who said that Naomi’s ” Tell my sister I love her” was code that she was in danger. When lost-kate-t1Kate took Miles to see Ben locked up in the basement, Miles asked her to leave. Kate refused. It was then that he cryptically told Ben that he knew who Ben was and what he can do. Then Miles asked for the 3.2 million (To which, Ben replies ” Why not 3.3 or 3.4″ šŸ™‚ ) Is 3.2 million actually a message from Jacob(?) about how many degrees to turn the frozen donkey wheel to move the Island? (320 degrees) and/or the new coordinates you must follow to find the Island again? Miles may have been the “conduit” for Jacob’s messages, since Miles is into “all things whispery” and that Ben was presently “indisposed”.

Then again, I could be totally off and Miles is just a greedy, opportunistic punk ( Which for me, Miles = good television ) .

Just some stuff I’ve been thinking about, gearing up for Season 5. šŸ™‚

You know, I had forgotten that Eko had memory issues, too. A little ironic, I guess. And I agree that Miles is fantastic. We needed someone snarky now that Sawyer has become the much more civilized James.

    Hi Jeremiah,

I wonder when Eko lost his memory. Was it before the crash? After? Is it part of a “time
    loop” thing?
Seems like everyone lost something in the implosion : Charlie, his hearing; Locke,
his voice and Desmond, his … um… pants. šŸ™‚

Miles to Charlotte about her finding her “home” : ” What DO I mean?!”
IMO, one of the best delivered lines of Season 4.

BTW, you have a terrific LOST blog, Jeremiah.

Thank you for the the link. šŸ™‚

    Hi Scott,

Yeah, that’s similar to what I was thinking. Unfortunately, still an unconfirmed theory. But ya never know. šŸ™‚
