LOST Thoughts : LOST : The Auction… and a little bit about Sawyer’s letter

Here is a link to the sneak peak of the LOST Auction that will be taking place this summer after the show is done.

Profiles in History

Probably tops on the list for me would be the copy of ” Watership Down” … for obvious reasons. But any one (or more) of those LOST artifacts would be incredible to own.

Eight pages of purchasable LOST goodies (coincidence?!) . Like to/ going to bid on any of the memorabilia? Love to hear about it. 🙂

*An aside * Looking at another one of Sawyer accouterments, his letter, was rather strange. This is the original that first appeared in The Pilot. The handwriting seemed rather neat and uniform for an eight year old. Now, most likely, is because it was just penned by someone in the Props Department. It was the contents of the letter that disturbed me. The familiar ” You don’t know who I am, but I know who you are” and the details about his parents demise are just like we heard read to us several times. But the odd thing about the letter is that that paragraph is written over…and over… and over. It is similar to Jack Torrence’s ” All work and no play….” line from Stephen King’s ” The Shining”. Is this a clue of what Sawyer may become ( And it’s dark, Jack…it’s very dark ) ? Is this a clue that James is “special” like Danny Torrence…and Hurley…and Miles? Is it repeating because each paragraph is for each person that reads it ( Uncle Doug, Kate, Anthony Cooper) and only see it as one paragraph, before it is torn up ( Why? I have no idea…just reaching…lol) Does it have to do with this parallel time line? Or is it all just good old fashioned rage induced obsession? Whatever the answer, it was deliberate.

LOST Thoughts : It’ll Come Back Around

mswendygravitar8 I was staying up way too late the other night and caught the Season 3 episode ” The Brig” on HD ( Why do I do this? I own all the seasons and can watch them at anytime! I guess there’s just something special about stumbling onto a program. ) Maybe because of the hour I started deducing this theory that can account for its ridiculousness. And yet, here I am, writing about it anyway.

In this episode, lost-sawyer-t1Sawyer finally does in the elusive “original recipe” Sawyer, Anthony Cooper… the man he sees as the one who ruined his life, by strangling him with a chain. This is because Cooper’s son, John Locke, cannot. But it’s assumed, Locke would if he could. ben-t13Benjamin Linus, kills Mr. Cooper’s son, lost-locke-t1John Locke… the man he perceives who ruined his life, in a similar manner with an extension cord ( Season 5, ” The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham”) . In turn, will Ben die, like Roger Linus, in an incident much like ” The Purge” ?

In the Season 3 finale, lost-jack-t2Jack Shephard is just about to make a suicidal move by throwing himself off a bridge in a drunken stupor, when he is stopped short by an accident on the road behind him. christianshephard-tChristian Shephard, died in a suicidal drunken binge and threw himself into a fight he probably knew he couldn’t win (or at least, that’s what we were told).

So, this got me thinking… is this how things will end for the Losties? Will each of their demises ( if they take place) mirror those of their fathers/parents? Will Sawyer end up in a murder/suicide, possibly with lost-kate-t1Kate as his wife ? And will she die the same way as she killed her father i.e. in some kind of premeditated explosion?

There is another side to this scenario…

We saw lost-charlie-t1Charlie’s mom in one episode but in ” Greatest Hits” she wasn’t there, especially noticeable absence during The Paces holiday/swimming lesson. Liam named his baby girl after Charlie and his mom in ” Fire + Water”. The way they spoke it sounded like she was no longer alive. Had Megan Pace given her life, possibly even in a sacrificial way, for her son(s) ? ( This is purely speculative…but it would be cool if we found that to be true somehow in Season Six).

David and Carmen are still around. So, does this bode well for lost-hurley-tHugo?

Pierre Chang sent his son and wife away knowing that they would despise him, if it would save their lives. miles-tMiles finds out who his dad is and what he did for him. Miles, in turn, puts himself in a place of rejection by telling Pierre he is a time traveler to save his life ( and later, physically does rescue his father).

Does this work in reverse? Will Eloise get shot like she shot danielfaraday-tDaniel?

In this respect, is it fate or living by example?

I know… I know… I need to get more sleep. 😉

LOST Thoughts : The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham ( Or Whatever Happened to Johnny Locke?)

The war is on. And it sounds like lost-locke-t1Locke is ” The General”. Except he (and we) don’t know what side he’s fighting for.

Some Questions :

Who is telling the truth?
Who is evil?
Who is dead?
Who are those people Walt dreamed about who want to hurt Locke?
Who was taken in “the flash” and who wasn’t (and did it divide them into “sides”) ?
Who is that woman that took off with franklapidus-tFrank?
Who is Ms. Hawking… really?

Some Repeats :

Locke and lost-sawyer-t1Sawyer having to bite down of the same stick and twine contraption, then passing out( Locke for his leg/ Sawyer for the needle in ” Every Man for Himself” / Season 3)

Children playing football/soccer in village, reminiscent of the day lost-eko-tMr. Eko was taken by the warlords in ” 23rd Psalm”/ Season 2 ( I wonder if that is telling of what “side” Widmore is on?)

Both Locke and ben-t13Ben vomited when they reached Tunisia after turning the frozen donkey wheel ( There’s No Place Like Home/ Season 4)

Locke strangled by Ben, just like his father, Anthony Cooper, was strangled by Sawyer (The Brig/Season 3).

lost-hurley-tHurley seeing Locke by the same tree as lost-charlie-t1Charlie ( I wonder if “Mr. Eko” first showed up there too….and possibly even more “people” and if it is some sort of “hot spot”)

We’ve heard rumblings of war and lost-jack-t2Jack wondering “How long would it take to train an army” ( The Hunting Party/Season Two)

Same graveyard that Helen is in is the same one that Anthony Cooper was “buried” in ( Lockdown/Season 2) Could this be another “fake” death/marker, like Cooper or Jin or will Helen actually RIP ?

Jack and people in car accidents ( Locke/ TLADOJB, shannon-tShannon’s father, Adam Rutherford and Sarah ( Man of Science, Man of Faith/Season 2, Mrs. Arlen and son, Through the Looking Glass/ Season 3, Beth (with child) All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues/ Season 1)

Some Clues :

Hurley painting The Great Sphinx of Giza. The Sphinx has much lore behind in, in both history and mythology. But it is also a symbol of Army Intelligence. Could this also be a place where one of those “pockets” are that Ms. Hawking spoke about in “316”?

Copy of 1954 LIFE Magazine ( April 19, 1954) The Awesome Fireball hydrogen testing cover and inside picture of 1954 monster movie “Creature From the Black Lagoon” , which also had the mysterious deaths of an entire science team.

Two more of those rectangular boxes are on the desk in the Hydra Station. What are they? ( See Nancy Drew’s article for more info. 🙂 )

LOST Thoughts : Red Files and Rabbit Holes

In Season One’s “Deus Ex Machina”, John Locke decided that he wants to meet his father, Anthony Cooper. This is provocated by the bizarre arrival of his long lost mother, Emily, back into his life. She is convinced that her son was “immaculately concieved”. Locke is obviously not and the search is on for his dad. He hires a private investigator who hands him a manilla envelope with Emily’s entire history. The PI “lifted some hairs from her car and matched it with your DNA sample. 99.9% certain ” (of her maternity). He tells Locke how she was institutionalized several times for schizophrenia (at Hurley’s Santa Rosa Institute) but is fine if she is on her meds.

Locke : “What about my father?”
P.I. : (deep sigh) ” Here’s the thing. Your mother sought you out, so she’s “fair game”. But THIS guy? Maybe he doesn’t even know you exist? I’ve done this enough times to know. This stuff isn’t meant to be , even thought it may FEEL that way. This probably won’t have a happy ending. So, (slapping red file) do you want it or not?”
Locke: ” I want it.”

As we know, it was just as the P.I. said, to say the least, in the short and long term.

Move ahead several years. Locke is in a dilemma. After Anthony Cooper shows up in the “box” , Locke is told that he must, according to Ben , murder his own father if he was truly “special”. He balks and walks, openly humiliated by Ben for being “not who we thought he was”. (Another question for the list: What’s with all the patricide?)

The next day, Richard approaches Locke with more information that will help John “bypass” the whole “kill your dad” on a technicality: of a one James “Sawyer” Ford . It’s the whole ugly history of Sawyer’s past, including the name of the man who sparked the murder/suicide of his parents: Anthony Cooper. (The Brig, Season Three) Richard is the catalyst for Locke’s journey to finding out his “purpose” and his being “special” , much like Emily. “And to do that, your father HAS to go, John” . And it all rests inside a what? A little red file.

In the 1999 movie “The Matrix” , Keanu Reeve’s character “Mr. Anderson” is confronted by the mysterious Morphius (his eventual friend and mentor) with the question of whether he wants to know what is “truth”. He has the option of taking two pills. One is blue and he will end his journey right then, despite his inexplicable feeling that there is more than what he “sees” in this world. But if he takes the red pill, he is taken down the “rabbit hole” and show what is “The Matrix” and to fulfill what “fate” has for him as Neo their “savior” . The choice, like Locke “wanting” what was in the red file, was only his to make. Of course, Keanu takes the red pill (We wouldn’t have a story if he didn’t 😉 ) .

Are these red files Locke’s “pills” toward his “destiny”? Is he the Island’s “Neo”? And is that why he didn’t mind “going down the rabbit hole” with the smoke monster in Season One finale, Exodus? And if that is the case, of the P.I. or Mr. Alpert, who is acting as the ” Smith” , the Matrix’s evil henchman, and who is the “Morphius” ? Or are they both playing from the same side, initially using Locke’s “Don’t tell me what I can’t do” signature “philosophy” against him? Was it Anthony Cooper that was like “Smith” , inadvertantly sending Locke on a path to the place/people that would help him find his “destiny” in an attempt to destroy him. Perhaps Locke is the “mentor” and someone like Aaron or Jack is the “Neo”? And ultimately, which “side” do all these people “play” for, in the grander scheme?

Locke “failed” Richard’s test at the tender age of five and wanted nothing to do with Mittlelos Science Camp as a teenager. It seems it wasn’t until he was presented with the red file of “daddy issues” did his quest truly begin.

It’s either that or the props department got a great deal on crimson folders at Staples. 🙂

* Update (1/13/09) (In the midst of a Season 4 rewatch) Guess what Ben gave to Locke ,along with the recorded over Red Sox tape of Charles beating up one of Ben’s “field agents”? It was everything Locke needed to know about Mr. Widmore…all in a little red file.

LOST Thoughts: How Did Juliet Know?

It was bugging me that Juliet knew that Sawyer killed Frank the Shrimp Guy in Australia (as well as Sayid’s past “indiscretions” in his homeland) when I was watching it live back in Season Three.(One of Us). Someone was discussing it recently ( I can’t remember if it was a podcast or a blog. I apologize. Let me know if it was you 🙂 ) about that they had a lot of info on Jack . Ben had Patchy in the Flame Hatch being able to monitor Juliet’s sister Rachel and her son, Julian (and probably how they got the Red Sox game too 😉 ) But no one knew that Sawyer killed Frank, not even the Australian police. So how could anyone possibly know that he did it?

Then it hit me. Hibbs knew.

Hibbs (played by Robert Patrick) was the conman that Sawyer was set up by in “Outlaws”, Season One. (In fact, I had my theory that he was the real Sawyer. Would have fit too. Oh, well! 🙂 ) He used James’ thirst for revenge, to “settle a score” with Frank for not paying up ,by telling him the Shrimp Man was the real Sawyer.

Who is Hibbs? What was ” The Tampa Job” ? My guess is that you’ll probably find his name next to Anthony Cooper’s (subset: Florida) in Ben’s rolodex that he keeps in his secret hieroglyphic closet. (Maybe this is some of the stuff he and Juliet would discuss over ham? 😉 )

Now…who’s their “man” in Bozrah?
