I will be at the GSPN LOST Finale party and will be there along with the delightful Anna from the Jacob’s Cabin podcast . I believe that Cliff and Stephanie will be doing a live feed from the party. At some point , we will be dropping by the LOST Mythos Theorycast. Anna and I will also, most likely, do a podcast together afterward. It is going to be one busy, crazy, sad and happy weekend.

Heath and I have been taking part in Donald is LOST’s mytharc series. Donald will continue the series until at least the end of LOST. You can find the most recent episode ” The Podcasters” at click here. I encourage you to go back (and forward to newer episodes 😉 ) to hear the rest of the DIL Mytharc Series. LOST Thoughts : David’s Mother or Jack’s X Wife

During this past little break, I hosted the Bunny Awards on The LOST Revisited Now podcast… which turned into an 8 hour Ramble On cast…lol . One of the mini topics of discussion was “Who is Jack’s son, David’s mother in the flash-sideways? “. Now, the obvious choices are either Juliet or Sarah ( seeing neither relationship with Jack went very far). But since LOST is hearkening back to earlier seasons, I’m thinking why not a callback to a character from a Season Two “crossroads” for Jack, relationship-wise.

Jack had to make a decision to stay with his wife and work things out or start a new relationship with the daughter of a patient, Gabriella ( The Hunting Party) . He chose Sarah… to which, Sarah told Jack she was seeing someone else. So, it would play into the ” But what if he chose Gabriella” scenario. Perhaps, the flash- sideways would have confirmed that the pairing of Jack and Gabriella wouldn’t have been successful there either.

Now, this will most likely not happen but I think it would be fantastic if it did. It is consistent with the storyline without being so “on its sleeve”?

What about you? Are there any character “reveals” that you would have enjoyed seeing or hoping to see, that involve people other than our main characters but still would make sense, in the overall mythology?

LOST Thoughts: Such a Voice LOST/VO Article

If you listen to The Lost Revisited Now podcast, you may have heard me mention that I started investigating and studying about what it takes to have a career in voice over. So, along with following fans/friends on Twitter, I also follow some people who tweet about the subject.

A few weeks ago, a tweet came up asking if anyone was excited about that night’s episode of LOST. But it wasn’t from someone that I would expect it to come from. It came from Catherine, who hosts the blog for Such a Voice, a company that specializes in voice over training and demo recording. I told her that I was and mentioned that it was because of the show that I became interested in voice acting.

Since then, we have “spoken” via email and she asked if I would write up an entry for the Such a Voice blog about my LOST/Voice Over “connection” . And… I did. If you would like to check it out, here is the link.

( Again “Thank You” to Catherine from Such a Voice blog. ) 🙂

Update: The article found it way onto the Voices of Advertising site… very cool! Thanks to them and again, to Cat, for giving me that bit o’ news. 8)

I’ll be heading towards the state of Ohio for a LOST Finale Party/Meet-up on Sunday, May 23rd with Cliff and Stephanie of GSPN.tv ( Generally Speaking’s Weekly LOST podcast) . So will my good friend, Anna, from the Jacob’s Cabin podcast. I can’t wait! But it looks like I’m going to have to anyway… you know, with the whole time issue thing. 😉

GSPN LOST Finale Party Audio Promo

What are your plans for the big day/weekend? Going to Ohio too? To LA for Jay and Jack’s viewing party, like Mr. Heath Solo? Just hanging out with family/friends at home? I would love to hear what you’re planning. 8)

( Special ” Thank You” to Cliff and Stephanie , Jay and Jack, and all those who are for putting on the LOST Finale Parties. Very much appreciated.)

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep12 – Everybody Loves Hugo or Still (Not) Crazy After All These Years

IMO, a very enjoyable Hurleycentric episode, despite a couple of bumps in the road. Some quick thoughts…

A ltruistic Hugo getting an honorary dinner, hosted by a “youthful” (?) Dr. Pierre Chang

B ook in Ilana’s tent: Dostoevsky’s “Notes From the Underground”… second book by him on the show, the first “The Brothers Karamazov”.

C lumsy Ilana! Never toss around a bag full of nitro-sweating dynamite when you’ve got candidates to babysit ( I mean, that’s right out of the Worst Case Scenario Handbook).

D esmond sees no reason to be scared… and that doesn’t sit well with MIB.

E xperimental Farm is part of the Mr. Clucks franchise. I wonder if there’s a Room 23 for the chickens?

F orty two is Desmond’s number for his chicken order at Mr. Clucks and four sticks of dynamite in Ilana’s bag.

G rampa Tito may still around but David Reyes is nowhere to be found in Hugo’s FS. Could he have been on the Island when it sunk or was he always “destined” to take off.

H ugo… everybody loves him. “You know who doesn’t love you… a WOMAN!” A (hopefully not) last nugget of comic gold from Carmine Reyes.

I lana’s bag was taken by Hurley. I assumed that it was Jacob’s ash…but it made a weird, clanging sound. Are the black and white stones in there? Or just Jacob’s keys that fell out of his pocket when MIB kicked him into the fire pit? We shall see…

J ack was willing to go with Hugo’s plan, despite knowing that Jacob’s never told him to go see MIB/Locke. Will it mean their end or somehow work in their favor?

K id in the jungle appears to be getting bigger… and appears to continue to get under MIB’s skin. Des sees him, just like Sawyer. Is it because he’s an unknown candidate? Or from being “special”?
L ibby ( Cynthia Watros) was wonderful in this episode. Glad she had a chance to “come back” into Hurley’s life.

M ournful Ben talking about the seeming futility of Ilana’s calling…”I guess the Island was done with her” … and wonders what it will do to the rest of them when it’s “done” with them too. But was that the case with her or just a casualty of carelessness?

N umber obsessed Lenny wasn’t at Santa Rosa ( at least, we didn’t see him). Is it because the Island sunk so he never heard The Numbers, which triggered his insanity?

O ff to destroy the plane: Ben, Richard and Miles. Heading towards MIB’s camp: Jack, Hurley, Sun ( the rest of the candidates) and Frank ( the pilot). Advantage: MIB… at least, for now.

P ush me down a well, will ya?! I’ll just run you over with my rental car in the other time line, Brutha!” Was that Des’s reasoning… or was this just his way of helping John Locke to “see”?

Q uestioning MIB about the stick he was whittling, Sawyer wants to know what it will be. MIB says it will tell him. More "Locke" is creeping in. Will it be like Eko's stick? Will it be a weapon? A walking stick? Love to hear your thoughts?

R oselita stood up poor Hugo… but it worked out for the best. Roselita, Rose (who is employed by Hugo), Rosie ( made an appearance during 77′ Dharma days, which Hugo was a part of) and Santa Rosa ( the mental institution he stayed at). Also red roses in Catholicism, which is Hugo’s and family’s faith, are symbolic of the Virgin Mary.

S panish Johnny’s was the restaurant that Hugo was eating. I wonder if in this time line, Hugo and Johnny are still friends and that he helped him start his own business? We may never know… but it sounds like something he would do, so I’m going with it…lol.

T he Black Rock is gone…long live The Black Rock.

U nhesitatingly, Desmond tells Ben that his son’s name is Charlie. Was it because he remembers his actual son from the other time line or because the names Charlie Pace and/or Charles Widmore were fresh in his mind?

” V ery old” is what that well is… and it’s not the only one on the Island. Will there be another donkey wheel at the bottom of it? Christian Shephard? Or something we haven’t seen yet?

W hispers explaination: Works for some instances, not for others (Frank Duckett, as one example) Will we get more? I’m guessing, most likely not.

X time line gave us that picnic that Hurley and Libby didn’t get to take…awww. 🙂

“Y es it does” says MIB to Desmond about the Island “having it in for all of them”. Does the Island hold a grudge… or is it just getting them all to where they need to be?

Z apping Hurley memory of the other time line so he could “see”… a sweet kiss from Libby. For Locke, kissing the pavement after Desmond hit him… or will it happen somewhere else because of it…say a hospital, perhaps?

Next stop…. Episode 13… 🙂

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep11 Happily Ever After or Once Upon a Time Travel…

If you would like to hear more thoughts about the episode, check out The LOST Revisited Now podcast ( Episodes #100 and #101) .
🙂

One thing that is still on my mind this week from this terrific Desmond-centric episode is the Charlie/Desmond interaction. It was very reminiscent of the episode “Dave” from Season Two.

In it, Hurley’s imaginary friend, Dave told him that none of what was happening on the Island was real. That Hugo was still in Santa Rosa Mental Institution and that he was in a catatonic state again, like he was after the deck collapsed and two people died. That Dave was actually the part of Hugo that needed to “wake up”. Dave tells him this before he jumps off a cliff into the ocean and disappears. But Hugo said he was not going to follow him.

Hurley : “I don’t want to kill myself.”

Dave: “Who said anything about killing yourself, man? This is going to bring you back to life. The only way for you to bust out is to tell your mind that you don’t believe any of this.”

Hurley: “So if I?” he looks over the cliff. “All of this will be gone? I’ll wake up?”

Dave: “That’s right. And when you do wake up, come find me.”

And here is a bit from Charlie and Desmond, just prior to them crashing Des’ car into the ocean.

Charlie: “I feel sorry for you, mate. You think you’re happy. You think you’ve got it all. This, your life.”

Desmond: “Why, because none of it’s real?”

Then we have the pairing of Charlie with Hugo in the Season 4 premiere ” The Beginning of the End”.

Hurley: “I may be in a mental hospital, but I know you’re dead and I’m not having an imaginary conversation with you.”

Charlie: “I am dead. But I’m also here.

Hurley: “Okay, prove it.”

Charlie slaps him

These instances are interactive. Dave hits Hurley several times. Charlie slaps Hugo. Charlie crashes Desmond’s car. One takes place on the Island, the others, off. Is it that the dead in one location are alive in another? Is all of it in someone’s mind? If this is the case, how are these “illusions” making physical contact? Is it in that thin veil between life and dead that “seeing” happens? Or are we witnessing completely different things? Dave= Hallucination, Charlie/Des= time travel, Charlie/Hugo= Standing on the precipice of life&death?

In the “Beginning of the End” episode, there was a vision of Charlie underwater with ” They need you” written on his hand, speaking to Hugo. Do these “pieces” have to be the same for all who “see”? Hugo didn’t know about the handwriting. We know why it was relevant to Desmond, but there was no point of origin for Hugo.

In the Season One Kate-centric episode, “Born to Run”, Kate is going to see her mother, Diane, in the hospital. Diane is waiting the hallway in the hospital. When she sees Kate, Diane starts yelling and Kate takes off. During this scene, Kate passes by a sign that reads ” Magnetic Resonance IMAGINING” not imaging. Desmond was asked if he was having hallucinations before he received his MRI. He had a hard time answering that question. Is this what is going on? Hallucinations can be “felt” and “seen” by the individual. What was important for Charlie and Desmond is that they “felt ” the love that they came in contact with ( either by a vision of Claire or Penny) and that they “see” it.

So, it this a mass hallucination? Is the “war” taking place on the battlefield of the mind? Is the existence only as good as the memory? Oh, boy… I hope not…lol. But despite the past presence of Eric Laneurville (formally of ” St. Elsewhere”) on LOST(The Other Woman,The Brig,Tricia Tanaka Is Dead, S.O.S. and The Other 48 Days), I think that they’ve shown that the “snow globe” has been cracked.

Next…episode #12.

LOST Thoughts: “Why You’re Not Enjoying LOST” post

My fellow LOST blogger, Bonnie Covel ( aka Lostaway Bonnie) has asked if I would put out the word about a particular post she has published on the lost.about.com website that she hosts. Bonnie would like to know “Why You’re Not Enjoying ‘Lost’ ? “. It is already getting quite a bit of buzz. But she would love to hear from as many fans about this subject as are willing to express it.

If you would like to chime in on the topic, here is the direct link to the article. And while your there, you might want to check out the rest of Bonnie’s site. It’s a terrific place for all things Lost ( Warning for those in the “Spoiler-Free Nation” : there are titles to upcoming episodes, prior to airing. But most spoilers are designated to their own section. 🙂 ) .

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep10 – The Package or It’s Not a What…It’s a (Dr.) Who

This week, we were treated to a Jin/Sun extravaganza called “The Package.

Here are some additional thoughts that I’ve been mulling over since it aired. If you would like to hear more, you can check out ” The LOST Revisited Now”podcast, Episode #99.

If Mr. Paik was having Jin “rubbed out” by Keamy in this X time line, was he going to do the same thing in the original? Is there a “whatever happened, happened” sort of thing going on? If that is the case, what would be Paik reasoning for Jin’s execution? I’m thinking that he didn’t give the complete “message” to the guy who was the auto inspector. That was bad enough. But when Jin couldn’t “finish the job” by killing Jae Lee, the man who was sleeping with his wife, Paik may have deemed him useless, at that point, and would have ordered the hit.

Now, the watch itself. I don’t think that it was for Keamy. We know that at one point in the original time line, Martin worked for Widmore. Widmore and Paik were business associates, even playing golf together. So, I’m guessing that watch was most likely going to Charles in this time line, as well as the original.
The inscription on the original watch read ( in Korean) Congratulations…mutual cooperation…business development… Mr. Paik . That would seem to apply. I’m still wondering who got the first watch in Australia in Season One…and if there was another watch in this time line?

More symbolism with the fruit ( granted, it was from a vine, not a tree) that was offered to Sun by Jack. Jack saying ” I guess it wasn’t told it was supposed to die” with the stubborn tomato symbolizing Sun. This could be a play on ” Ye shall not surely die” said by the serpent to Eve ( even though Adam was told they would if they ate the fruit) . Also, what has been one of Sun and Jin’s biggest obstacles? Fertility issues or ” being fruitful and multiplying”. I have a feeling that their “reunion” may end up taking place in a cave. 😦

The tomato in Italian is called “pomodoro” or “golden apple”. In Greek mythology, the golden apple was known as “the apple of discord” because it was inscribed with the words” to the prettiest one”. This did not sit well with the many goddesses that considered themselves to be the one the golden apple was for. This small squabble is what eventually lead to the Trojan War. And like a wise man once said… a war is coming…and it’s already here.

This week’s mirror images was, first, Sun in the hall mirror ( almost looking like she was seeing something she couldn’t comprehend…even looking through, perhaps). The other, Jin’s, was a side by side image of him from the freezer ( thanks Anna for that one 😉 ) . He is “parallel” to it. Speaking of mirrors, Jin and Sun are standing in front of one the first time she, and the audience, find out what kind of “work” Jin is doing for Mr. Paik, as he is washing away the blood from his hands.

Thought it was funny how Ben was so concerned with Sun’s head injury and if she was ok when not to long ago, Sun whacked him in the noggin with an oar. Oh, how things have changed 😉

I have another lame theory about the plane. Richard said that they need to destroy it. But that is not an easy task without getting caught. And seeing MIB can loosen shackles, can he fix airplanes too. But what if you can’t fly what isn’t there? Maybe Jacob will finally give Ben an actual order, that will require a sacrifice on his part. What if he turns the donkey wheel one last time, causing them to move back in time and the plane “disappearing”. Before, Smokey was just that and wasn’t effected. But this time, he is stuck as “Locke” and has to travel back with them. And the war will take place at the “beginning” of when Widmore and that group first came to be. This would also explain Jack saying the clothes on “Adam and Eve” were about 40-50 years deteriorated. It could be “them” , as Hurley said in “Lighthouse”… and still be aged like that, in 2004. Most likely wrong…but when else can I put it out there. 🙂

Now that Smocke may or may not “need” certain people, will Claire kill Kate? Or will we see her leaving the Island in a helicopter with Aaron (like Desmond saw), quelling Claire’s anger? But how can this happen? I’m thinking there might be more than one “double locked room” on that sub ( but he’d most likely had to share it with several pylons).

Speaking of Desmond, aka The Package…why is he called that? Yes, it paralleled Jin having to deliver a package to Keamy in the flash-sideways. But it just seemed so strange to call him that. So, I decided to see if there was something about packages involving time travel, science, etc. Sure enough, there is. A physics package is the actual working parts of a nuclear or thermonuclear device. ( Interestingly, the Swan device was one of the first nuclear devices made by the US in 1956, the year Richard went to see Locke be born and the name of the Hatch where Des turned the fail safe key). Hmm… didn’t we have the core of the Jughead setting things off for time travel last season? Is this how Desmond is “uniquely and miraculously special”? Can he, in a sense, act as a “bomb”, capable of affecting time, personally and on a whole?

And last but not least… Frank misses bacon. 🙂

Now, onto unwrapping the gift that is this week’s new episode…#11.

LOST Thoughts: S6/ep9 – Ab Aeterno or That Jacob’s a Real Corker!

ab aeterno (from the eternal) : Literally, “from the everlasting” or “from eternity”. Thus, “from time immemorial”, “since the beginning of time” or “from an infinitely remote time in the past”. In theology, often indicates something, such as the universe, that was created outside of time. *

Since this week’s title was in Latin, I thought I ‘d look up some other “abs” to discuss a few extra thoughts I had about this Ricardo-centric episode.
( If you would like to hear more, you can go to The LOST Revisited Now page and find “Ab Aeterno” , Episode 94) 🙂

ab absurdo (from the absurd): The statue being knocked over by The Black Rock and carried in so far inland… is this possible? Here is a link to an article by Popular Mechanics that let’s us know (of course, it being a “place where miracles happen!”, notwithstanding) 😉

ab antiquo (from the ancient) : It was finally confirmed that Richard was on the Island for a long time=since 1867. But thanks to the delightful Bonnie Covel over at about.com LOST blog, I have been alerted of date discrepancies. In the episode ” The Constant”, Widmore was bidding on the journal of from The Black Rock.

Here is the quote from the auctioneer about the details of the journal and its history:

“The Black Rock set sail from Portsmouth, England March 22, 1845 on a trading mission when she was tragically lost at sea. The only known artifact of this journey is the journal of the ship’s first mate, discovered among the artifacts of pirates seven years later. The contents of this journal have never been made public nor are known to anyone outside the family of the seller, Tovard Hanso. We open the bidding on lot 2342 at 150,000 pounds.”

But this week, the year of the crash on the Island was 1867, over two decades later than what is purported by the auctioneer.

So, is this a time travel issue (especially considering the episode it was featured in) ? A writing/continuity error? Was Widmore actually purchasing a fake ( yet another “con” on this show)? Love to hear what you think on the subject. 8)

ab urbe condita (a.u.c.) ( from the city having been founded) Speaking of Portsmouth, England, it was the hometown of Charles Dickens. The more I watch LOST, the more I feel like it would have been something that he would have written… or at least, very happy to read. 😉

ab epistulis
(from the letters) : The portion of the Bible that Ricardo was reading while he was in prison, was Luke Chapter 4. In it, there is the account of Jesus’ temptation by the Devil. His rejection in his own hometown, saying things like “Isn’t he Joseph’s son?” as to belittle him and his ministry . Also in this chapter, Jesus says he is the fulfillment of prophetic scripture and then expels of a devil from a possess man (much to the chagrin of the Pharisees in the synagogue). And lastly, it tells of the healing of disciple Peter’s mother-in-law and the exorcism of another man who was demon possessed.

There are two things, from this chapter, that stand out to me that parallel the episode. The first is in regard to Jesus being tempted ,by Satan, 3 times with 3 different things( to which, Jesus rejects them all) . In Ab Aeterno, we witness the temptation of Richardo, by MIB, where he’s offered a reunion with his deceased wife. Like the devil did to Jesus, MIB waves the prize in front of Ricardo. Ricardo declines the offer.

But later, it is Richard that asked Jacob for 3 different things and is told what Jacob can and cannot do. Is this telling us that Jacob is good or are we just seeing a temptation in a reverse order? Either way, Ricardo agrees.

The other is how, like the citizens of Jesus’ homestead, Ben tries to lessen Richard’s importance to the Island by saying things like he knows nothing and that Ben has known Richard since he was a twelve. So, is Ben right? Is Richard not really anyone of consequence? From what we saw these past couple weeks, I think Mr. … Sorry… Dr. Linus might be wrong in his assessment.

ab utili (from utility) : On the Blast Door Map from the Swan Hatch( thank you, Lostpedia) it mentions, written as a side thought, “Known last resting place of Magnus Hanso/Black Rock”. Well done, Kelvin and Radzinski! And as we saw, it was. But not exactly “restful” when you get pulled through a wooden cheese grater of a door by a Smoke Monster. There was also a note about “Save yourself from Hell”. Very appropriate, considering all the referencing to both save/saving and Hell this week. But this raises the question : Is it literal or figurative? I’m thinking the later… but you never can be to sure with this show. 😉

ab irato (from an angry man) : As Dogen referred to him, will we see how that angry man, the MIB, will circumvent the island and break free? Will it involve our Losties? Does he need them to go “home” ? Or does he just need to keep them separated so the protector of the “cork” can never be realized?

ab incunabulis (from the cradle ie “from infancy”) : No Squirrel Baby this week… bummer!

Oh, well ! There’s always Episode 10… coming soon. 8)

LOST Thoughts : S6/Ep8 – Recon or (Looking Out for) Number One with a Bullitt

I know, that alternate title sounds like a solution to a “Before and After” puzzle on “Wheel of Fortune”. Now, on to some quick thoughts about this episode. If you would like to hear some more about ” Recon”, hop on over to the Lost Revisited Now page on Talkshoe and find Episode Recon: Episode 94. 🙂

James in the flash-sideways is a cop. I had a feeling that this would be the case. However, why did he let Kate go, when he saw her with handcuffs on in LA X? Will that ” I made this birthday wish four years ago” comment he made to her become more relevant?

Smocke told James that it is ” Kill or Be Killed” atmosphere on the Island. And he stated that ” And I don’t want to be killed!”. Even though we saw Smocke was stabbed without harm, how would he/could he be killed? Is the “killing” for him be the losing of his identity i.e. becoming Locke?

Miles mentioned his father working at the same museum that Charlotte, James’s blind date, worked at. Will we see Pierre Chang anytime soon? Did he leave the Island the same time Roger and Ben did? Does Miles even know that he was on the Island? Does Charlotte?

Both Charlotte and James have occupations that required them to look for clues to solve mysteries : a cop and an anthropologist.

Will we see Miles girlfriend and will she be someone we know? Will she “go Dutch” for coffee with Sawyer?

Smokey is able to read peoples minds/memories. Is this what he did with Kate… just find something that could be “relate-able” to win her over? Is he speaking from a genuine place.. only that place is from Locke’s memories that starting to “seep out”? Either way, “Aaron having a crazy mother” talk will keep Kate from her original purpose of reuniting Claire and her baby. And if “danger surrounds this baby”,Claire “goodness” needing to be the sole influence in his life, and that it was because of her giving up Aaron that the Losties “are all paying the price” ( Claire’s dream)… I’m guessing this might not turn out well if Kate goes this route.

Double locks on the door on the sub ( Two Lockes? 😉 ) . Who/What’s behind it?
A devise to “short circuit” Smokey?
Desmond?
Walt?
Faraday from another time line?
Widmore Industries ” White Smoke in a Can”?
Any thoughts are welcome. 🙂

James is searching for Anthony Cooper in the X time line. He didn’t know who the real Sawyer was until ” The Brig” when it was revealed on the Island. Who/ what was his source of information?

As James was looking for stuff about Anthony Cooper, he was using the lure of some found property and was the person in Alabama in 1976. Now, in this episode. James ( and the newspaper clippings) said that he was 9 years old when the murder/suicide occurred. And yet, in Season One’s ” Confidence Man”, we were told that he was 8 years old. Also, in ” Every Man for Himself” , Ben asks Sawyer how old he was . James said ” 32″ to which Ben promptly says ” Don’t liiiiie.” Thus, Sawyer then returns with ” 35″. If James was 35 in 2004, that would make him 7 years old in 1976. Unless, of course, he was still lying…lol. But this would make him younger, not older, in 1976.

So, was there a “Wrinkle in Time” ( like one of the books he was reading in ” Recon”, as well as the Island)? Did the Jughead make a discrepancy in the time? Would he have made a difference if he went back on the sub with Juliet in 1974? Or is this just, sadly, an error with continuity? We shall see.

Another big, yellow flower made its way into this episode ( as well as the name ” LaFleur”). It worked for Juliet… but not Charlotte (obviously under less awkward circumstances). Sayid also brought yellow roses to Nadia in ” Sundown”, symbolizing friendship, not romance.

The flower Sawyer gave to Charlotte was a sunflower. I decided to find out its symbolism if any. According to an article (written by Kathleen Karlsen, MA) , ” Sunflowers belong to the genus helianthus, a reference to Helios, the sun god.” They were also worshiped by the Inca Indians because they represented the sun to them.

The sun, being a symbol of light, was rejected by Charlotte. Is this a clue to what “side” she was on? But she became interested in James when he said his final choice of criminal vs cop was cop ( good/light)? More questions… 🙂

The sunflower is also the state flower of Kansas. Kansas is the destination of the Ingalls family in ” Little House on the Prairie” ( as well as the home of Henry/Dorothy Gale in ” The Wizard of Oz”.) Sawyer first mentioned his viewing habits of this program to Kate, in the Season 3 Episode ” Tricia Tanaka is Dead ( as opposed to ” Stranger in a Strange Land, which I mistakenly mentioned on this week’s podcast…Oops! 😉 ). Whether it was while he was sick with mono or going through a bad break up, looks like James will seek out the pure.. the sweet… the ” good” , that is ” Little House”. Is this where he will go to, to seek out the “good” as well, on the Island?

That’s all for now. To Episode 9 or Bust! 8)

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep7 Dr. Linus or Napoleon + Dynamite

We are now mere hours away from a new episode of LOST. In the meantime, just thought I’d talk about a couple things from last weeks episode that I forgot to mention on this week’s LOST Revisited Now podcast.

In ” Dr. Linus” , we saw, among Sawyer’s Stash O’ Stuff, a book by Chaim Potok entitled ” The Chosen” . While getting info on the novel (www. sparknotes.com) , I noticed there we many things contained in it that parallel the overall story of LOST itself such as …

It had not one main character but two and their stories ran “parallel” with each other.

The stories of two boys, both Jewish ( one a traditional Othrodox and the other a more “modern minded” Hasidic ) are told through the use of pairs, parallels, compliments and contrasts ( much like the X timeline)

Also, the was the idea of ” Silence as a path to the soul” ( Jack at the Lighthouse…staring at the ocean)

Some themes were Conflicts of Tradition vs Modernity ( Faith vs Science) and Choosing vs Being Chosen ( Free Will vs Fate).
Other parts covered in the book are: Father and Son relationships ( Daddy Issues) , Perception ( a much debated topic in the LOST community 😉 ) and suffering ( ” We are the cause of our own suffering” – Room 23, Not in Portland , Season 3).

Symbolism: Eyes and Eyeglasses ( the eye opening, Sawyer’s glasses) and the Talmud ( Book of Laws, The Rules)

On a more abstract note, we also got quite a few nods to one of the most notorious world leaders in history and his similarity to the plight of Mr. Linus. Sorry…DR. Linus. But with the high school setting and its inner “politics”, Richard and his death wish at the Black Rock, and the appearance of Jon Gries and his whispering of the trademark “YES!” as he glanced over his microwave turkey dinner, I couldn’t help but make these parallels.

One a magnetic and power hungry French General turned Emperor, turned exiled prisoner, turned leader of France again and finally, exiled prisoner… yet again. The other a little low budget teen flick with some of the most lethargic characters to ever hit the silver screen . They couldn’t be more different … and yet their similarities are astounding.

What does this have to do with LOST, you say? I say what doesn’t this have to do with LOST?

Honestly… I don’t know. Just thought it was funny. 😉

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep6 Sundown or Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Temple

After this episode, there’s something that has kind of stayed with me. It just keeps playing over and over in my head…like some kind of creepy little tune . However, I will try to ignore it and focus on a few thoughts/questions that have come to mind.

Charles Widmore was “banished” from the Island. Sayid was “banished” from the Temple until he was asked to come back because something changed ( the rules maybe?) So, will Widmore eventually be asked back to the Island?

Ash around the Temple…Claire could pass over it. Just more confirmation the infected are not affected. But that is not true of Smocke. What is in that ash that can keep him at bay?

Talking and Smocke : Is there "power" in his words? He said he would only kill those "who wouldn't listen". Or is this merely figurative? It was important enough for Sayid to lie to Dogen about stabbing Smocke first and then he spoke.

Claire could order Dogen to speak English, just like Hurley ordered him out of the Temple hall. Benefits of being a past/present candidate or something else?

Hugo and Jack’s names were mentioned together by Ilana and Sawyer’s separately. Is this because she’s away of the potential “sides” they may occupy… or just me reading too much into it again? 😉

Again the word “safe” or some variation of it in this episode. I counted 5 times. What is the overall importance of the frequency of the use of it, if any?

For his son’s life, Dogen left for the Island forever to do a new”job”. What was this work and the ability that he had to keep Smocke from entering the Temple ( and that he had to be killed over it)?

Another mystery box… a wooden one ( Hi Nancy Drew! 😉 ) . Could what these boxes contain be weapons of some sort that have the potential of killing Smocke? Do they contain other important Island related artifacts? Or are they just fancy containers to hold pencils in? You decide!

Let out of airport jail only to be thrown into a restaurant cooler! Was Keamy who Jin was supposed to deliver the watch to… or someone Martin worked for?

Looks like Smocke and Jacob both used similar bargaining techniques. But Jacob’s deal with Dogen required him commit an act of self-sacrifice for love. Smocke’s required an act of sacrifice of others ( in this case , actual Others) for it. But in the FS, Sayid did something similar to what Dogen did for Nadia. Is this just Island story mirroring or a clue?

Ilana finds the same symbol on the Temple wall that Hugo found earlier that Jacob led him to. It appears to be the Omega, which is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Behind it was a “panic room” of sorts. Was Jacob showing Hugo where this was because if Jack wouldn’t leave, it would have been the only way to get out when the “end’ (Omega) comes?

Nadia’s picture: Why did they use this picture that the FBI used to get Sayid to catch his friend that was part of an attempted bombing and not the one that Nadia gave him when he helped her escape in Iraq? Was Sayid still involved in stopping his friend and Nadia still a student? Error or another clue?

Getting her first look at the new “Locke”, Kate is understandably dumbfounded. But his look back at her seemed to me of more of a ” I’m not quite sure what you’re about”. As if he is almost being “shielded” from who she might be. If that is the case, then why?

Sayid said the Others put needles into him. Claire claimed that they did the same thing to her. Is this what happened or is she recalling what Ethan did? And do these needles that both of them experienced have any involvement of the 481516342 serum , like what was in the Swan Hatch?

The brother of Sayid, Omar, said that he paid Keamy off and that he keeps wanting interest. Keamy was an extortioner but denied hurting Omar, even seemed indignant about it. So, is it possible that Omar hurt himself because what he originally wanted was Sayid to kill Keamy and his henchmen? Maybe he had it set up, knowing that if Nadia and the kids could be in danger, he would react exactly how he did? Far-fetched … or yet another “long con”? At this point, will we ever really know…lol?

A frightened Ben approached Sayid with means of escape…but is “too far gone”. Is Ben now going to play on Jacob’s team , for real this time, now that he found out he was used by Smocke? Or will Ben be a Wild Card, doing whatever works for him, at the time?

Rain falls after Sayid agrees on the deal he has made with Smocke. Rain often accompanies the Smoke Monster, especially notably in Season One. Jacob was burned up with fire and Ilana took the ash, most likely for more protection.

Let’s see fire made the ash and Smokey brings rain. Fire + Water. Does that mean I have to go back and watch that Charlie episode to figure this out?

That’s all for now. I’m eggcited for Episode 7 this week ( Sorry for that pun. Guess Claire’s not the only confused girl). 🙂

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep5- Lighthouse or A Chip Off the Old Doc

We are seeing the beginning of things “coming to light” for Jack, in this episode. As for me, still in the dark ( Hey, it’s LOST) . Nevertheless, I’m going to steer towards this episode, despite risking peril of heading for the rocks 😉

( If you want to hear other thoughts about this episode I (as well as Heath) had, check out The Lost Revisited Now Podcast, Episode 87 “Lighthouse”) .

GalleyHurley tells this unknown man where the kitchen is. But wouldn’t he recognize one of his own people and that anyone else was an Other and probably knew where it was? Odd, but eh… probably just something to say dialog-wise for the reveal of Jacob.

Bilge Water– Jacob is sitting by the contaminated spring. Will he “heal” the water…or is it too late? As he and Hurley are standing by the spring, it seems that Jacob is more concerned about someone that is coming to the Island and that he needs Hugo’s help.

Toe the Line– Hurley is confronted by Dogen in the Temple halls. He is looking at a hieroglyph that resembles the circular broach that Ms. Hawking was wearing in “Flashes Before Your Eyes”. Dogen tells him to leave but is thwarted by Hugo telling him that he is a candidate ( thanks to Jacob). Dogen is shocked at how he knows this and has to let Hurley do what he wants to. So, why is this? What makes a candidate so special that someone like Dogen must genuflect to their wishes? One thing we do know, according to the translation, is that he has to protect Hurley … or otherwise, he’d cut off his head.

Groggy– Another mystery wound. Jack can’t seem to remember having his appendix taken out. His mother said that he was about 7 or 8 and that Christian wanted to take it out but they wouldn’t let him. This is a lot like how Jack wanted to take out his own appendix, on Island, in Something Nice Back Home (Season 4). But in that flashback, he had no scar. Time line bleed? Error in Season 4? Is this because that’s where X marks the spot …of when the time lines “crossed” (1977)?

Also, Margo seemed concerned ” Why, don’t you remember?” Jack is playing like he did. Is this like Daniel Faraday but in reverse? As if Jack (as well as other Losties) are having memories added instead of taken away.
Before this scene, Jack walks by a picture in his house that may or may not be … black smoke.

Back and Fill – Hurley and Miles playing Tic Tac Toe (dark X’s, light O’s) ending in yet another tie. Is this foreshadowing of the endgame or will we have resolution? Personally, I’m hoping for the later. “It only ends once…”

Half pint– Jack was in a hurry because he had to pick up his son, David, from school. His SON?! Of course, the next question is “Who is his mother?” and is it someone we know, someone new or do we need to know? For now, we are not shown who she is ( but we know that she keeps her key under a white rabbit the same way one was kept at the hotel in ” Some Like it Hoth”) . Jack is divorced again in this time line too. Is Sawyer right about some people are just meant to be alone? Will this be the fate for all … or at least, most,of our Losties?
David is another musician…a pianist like Jack, Daniel, Charlie, Ben. And who was David listening to that he thinks Jack wouldn’t have heard of (Geromino Jackson? DriveShaft? The Beach Boys? Himself…since Jack didn’t know David was playing anymore 😉 ) ?

Listening to LOST Unlocked podcast, I heard Chris and Brian mentioned David from the Bible. How he was a shepherd ( David Shephard) and was a musician who wrote the majority of the Psalms (including The 23rd Psalm, which was an Ekocentric episode from Season 2).

Another thing about David is that he was a candidate to be king of Israel. Samuel the Prophet was instructed by God to go to find the future king amongst this particular family. The father Jesse brought out all of his sons..or so he said. None of the sons were the right person. Then Samuel asked Jesse if he had any more sons. Jesse offhandedly said his youngest David, the eighth son ,was out tending sheep. Turns out David was the one, whether his father thought he “had what it takes” or not. 😉

First Rate– Jack is excited to tell David that he had cable set up for him so he can watch the Red Sox play ( failing to notice that David is a Dodgers fan, which we learn from their 4 pictures together with his LA hat on… the last with the cap turned “sideways” with the LA “disappearing” …hmmm. )

Jack also sees that David is reading the “Annotated Alice” (in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass) and talks about how he read it to him when David was little (just like Aaron, S4) . David wanted to hear about Kitty and Snowdrop. These characters are two kittens of Alice’s cat , Dinah. Snowdrop is white and Kitty is black. Also, Kitty is the one who was actually the Red Queen and the one responsible for Alice’s dream. Will the dark side be the one orchestrating this “dream” called LOST (please, don’t let it actually be a dream…lol)? (Thanks to Glen who first sent me some info on the subject 8) ) .

Windfall– After much searching, Margo and Jack find the Last Will and Testament of Christian Shephard. But there is someone unfamiliar mentioned in it… a Claire Littleton! So, is this telling us that Christian would have had an affair with Carole and had a baby regardless? Or will Claire be the child of someone else and had another association with him? I’m guessing that she is still his child… that whatever happened, happened. But David didn’t exist before in the other timeline. Will this somehow tie into why we saw a pregnant Sarah Shephard in the Season 3 finale?

Fathom– Hurley can’t imagine how he’s going to get Jack to follow him to where they need to go. Jack can’t figure out how Hurley (or this “Jacob”) knows about ” Having what it takes”. Hurley is wondering how those bodies got in the cave. Jack can’t understand why Kate has the same backpack as his son, David in the flash sideways. Or at least, that’s what I think it looks like that’s what he’s thinking 😉

Leeway– Claire is the one to mention the word “safe” this week ” We’ve got to get you somewhere safe” (to Jin, when she busts him out of that bear trap).

Loose Cannon– And speaking of Claire, she seems a little unstable, which is punctuated by the fact she has a homemade Psycho- style “infant” in a crib and swings a mean ax. But can you blame her. She’s been stuck with needles, branded and had her baby stolen by the Others. Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Spin a Yarn– At least she is under that impression from what Jin told her. Or didn’t tell her. Wanting to save a life… and at this point, his own, he tells Claire that Kate has Aaron. But seeing that “The Others Don’t Have Your Baby” story didn’t suit her ( with a dead Justin for claire-ification), Jin then says that Aaron is back at The Temple.

Jury Rigging– Jack has spent his whole life (and the flash-sideways) trying to fix what is broken. But why Dr. Shephard came back to the Island was so someone/something could “fix” him for a change. But he is under the impression that it didn’t work and has to go back to “home remedies”. At least until he reached…

Skyscraper– The Lighthouse

Jack: ” How could we have not seen this before?”
Hurley: ” Maybe because we weren’t looking for it “.

( Mirror of Locke telling Sun, about here ring, that if you want to find something, you have to stop looking for it, Season 2)

The Island’s lighthouse may be patterned after
The Lighthouse of Alexandria
, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was, at one point considered one of the tallest structures in the world.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria was the inspiration for
The Tower of Hercules
in Spain , named after the figure from Greek mythology. The legend was that Hercules, who was half man, half god, fought a giant for 3 days and nights. Then when he emerged victorious, took his severed head and weapons and buried so the land can be used to erect the tower.

Let’s see… Dogen was going to cut Hurley’s head off, Hercules cut off the head of a giant, Justin was threatening to break Claire’s neck and Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts favorite phrase was ” Off with their heads!!!” At this point , it might be wise to invest in some Kevlar chain-meal turtlenecks.

Chew the Fat: This was a different Dogen that Jack encounters in the flash sideways, making small talk at the conservatory try outs ( where candidates are welcome 🙂 ) . Dogen says David has a gift (special?) and that “It’s hard to watch and not be able to help” ( a parallel to Jacob and the Losties?) .
Not sure why yet but are seeing more and more of these people from the Island congregating in the same area with the Losties.

Charting a Course– In the Lighthouse, Jacob’s ” Master List” can be found on a huge wheel, connected to four very revealing mirrors. In those mirrors, we saw Sawyer’s church for parents funeral, the temple of the Kwon wedding in The Incident and Jack’s childhood home (where he was told by Christian ” You just don’t have what it takes.”)
These were all points in their lives that solidified much of direction their life’s path would lead them. But knowing that Jacob was watching him enraged, instead of endeared Jack and the mirrors were promptly smashed to bits (along with any other cluey goodness 😉 ).

The wheel, however, remains in tact. Some names we know ( Austen, Linus, Friendly, Brennan ( Kate’s boyfriend or from Rousseau’s team?) … some names not so familiar, at least not yet. One of those that might still be of significance is 108- Wallace. There are people that have been named Wallace in history, philosophy, science, etc. But I would like to think that this could be a nod to Wallace “Wally” West, otherwise known as The Flash.

Wallace West became The Flash at the age of 10 when something went a rye in his uncle’s laboratory. His character was the first introduce the concept of “parallel worlds” in comic books. He, along with The Green Lantern, were the “stars” in the comic series ” Faster Friends” … that made an appearance on the Island because of Hurley. But it was another character that it is associated with more. And he might have been 10 years old when he got his “powers” like the Flash did? At least, that’s how old he was when got to the Island.

The name ” Wallace” means “one from the South” ( Australia?) One of the variations or nicknames for Wallace is Walt. Walter is German and means “Ruler of an army” . And how can you fight a war without an army?

Sure, they could have put Lloyd on the wheel… but what fun would that be! His mother , father and adoptive father, could have potentially changed his name multiple times. What he would be named was even a bone of contention before Walt was even born. This way, he is just stays “Waaaaalt!” to Jacob/MIB. And just because your name is crossed off, doesn’t mean your dead. It just means your not a candidate, for one reason or another. But it doesn’t mean your “out of the running” for something else ( You watch! Next week, we’ll find out “Lloyd” is on the wheel and there goes the theory! But hey, that’s part of the fun. 😉 )

Giving a Wide Berth
– Hurley couldn’t understand why they couldn’t just tell Jack to go to the lighthouse. Jacob said some people can be told in the back of a cab. Jack is the kind that has to figure out on his own. Did it just turn out that Jack actually was the one who Hugo help to “arrive”?

Batten Down the Hatches
– If Jacob is right, it’s too late to warn the Temple people. What will this mean for “half-hearted” Sayid, Miles, Dogen and the rest? Because Jin’s on his way back and on his heels are Claire Bunyan and her “friend”, the big Smokey (L)ox.

Is Jack just a figurehead or someone who , to paraphrase the former John Locke, is a leader that just needs to know where he’s going? Can’t wait to find out the answer to this and much more as we forge ahead towards Episode 6. 🙂
