LOST Thoughts : Any Relation to Hans Van Eeghan?

In light of the new ORG ( or is it ARG?) the spokesman representing the Dharma Initiative at ComicCon 2008 in San Diego was a man named Hans Van Eeghan.

Then I remembered, typing out the nominees for the Emmy Awards a little while ago, a familiar name was in the mix. Can you spot it?

Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Dramatic Series: LOST, ” There’s No Place Like Home (Parts 2 & 3), ABC * ABC Studios
Henk Van Eeghan , Editor

Mark J. Goldman, Editor

Are we in deeper than we think while “watching” Lost? Is it really “just a t.v. show”? Are we all being slowly recruited into the Dharma Initiative, luring us like a siren towards the Island’s rocky shores?

( fourtoedfoot for youtube)

Marvin Candle (now Pierre Chang) said that the Dharma Initiative MUST be reconstituted. Then is this all just a desperate attempt to do just that? Are we “him”? Are we the ones they are looking for? What does one snowman say to the other snowman? Did you know what the answer was BEFORE Desmond told us? Now that we DO know, we can theoretically “get in” when we are eventually approached, possibly even by a Van Eeghan himself! Then forever will we become willing slaves to the Initative’s mind altering experiments and restrictive jumpsuits?!

Or it could be Damon and Carlton, on the set, said something like…

” Hey Henk. Your name sounds very European and mysterious. Mind if we give you a “shout out” on the show”?
” Sure.”
” Okay. Thanks, Henk”.

Now, I ask you. Which of these two scenarios seems more likely? Yeah, I thought you’d say that. πŸ˜‰

LOST Thoughts : Sawyer Nickname Origin # 10

“Metro” was given to Boone Carlisle during a scuffle about food between Hurley and Sawyer, in his attempt to break it up (Season One, “Walkabout”) . Sawyer was suggesting that Boone was a little on the “high maintenance” side. That he ( Boone) is a guy who appears to spend a bit too much time on his “look” instead of on other more “useful” pursuits ( Ironically, the same thing that Boone was busting Shannon about).

Now, just because Boone is ” pretty” does not mean he is not tough and resourceful when the “chips are down”.

Wasn’t he the first one to think of the pen thing when Rose was unconscious, huh? I guess that wasn’t technically “neccesary”.

Wait! Didn’t he go and save JoAnna from drowning? Well, he DID drowned a little in the attempt, despite being a lifeguard..but STILL!

But wasn’t he the first one to volunteer to be “on watch” when weird stuff started happening on the beach? Ok…he did fall asleep and Scott got mangled during his charge. Hey, that could happen to ANYBODY!

Hold on! Didn’t he scale that cliff to reach the Nigerian drug plane, actually getting a signal on the radio that could…have…gotten…them…res…cued.

Yeah…well… Boone ran a wedding planning business almost all by himself before the crash. How do you like him NOW?! πŸ˜‰

LOST Cartoon Art : The Only Australian Who Loves Peanut Butter

Claire Littleton (played by Emilie de Ravin) : Such a young woman to have gone through so much intense drama in her life.

Example:
Mother in a coma from an accident she “caused”
Finding out Christian Shephard is her real father
Boyfriend in Australia leaves her after she becomes pregnant
Attempts to give the baby up for adoption
Surviving a plane crash while pregnant
Delivering baby on island soon after
Kidnapped
Drugged
Having Amnesia
Boyfriend of three months sacrificed his life to save you
Baby stolen on multiple occasions, including by her boyfriend
Almost crushed, while holding Aaron, by a hurtling Swan Hatch Quarantine Door
Profuse hemorraging from Others Brand Time Release Death Capsules
Drowning
Being inside an exploding house

And yet Claire, as of late, seems to have matured and is rather composed, despite her harrowing circumstances.

Either that or she’s dead.

Happy Lost Though of the Day : Charlie NOT reading Claire’s diary

LOST Thoughts : Sawyer Nickname Origin # 9

Poor Hurley! Sawyer tags him yet again with a food related nickname, ” Pork Pie”. He lets this one fly during an altercation between them over who “took” the last of the airline cuisine in the Season One episode, ” Walkabout”.

Pork pies, according to Wikipedia, ” are a type of meat pie and are traditional British food. They consist of roughly chopped pork and pork jelly sealed in a hot water crust pastry, and are normally eaten cold. In Yorkshire, a pork pie is occasionally referred to as a “growler”. Pork jelly is a mixture of leftover pig organs, such as trotters, ears and snouts, boiled in vinegar, bay leaves, chili pepper and lemon and then pickled in their own jelly”. Ahhh…..yum??? .

There is even a Pork Pie Appreciation Society, listing any pork pie news, recipes, events and even get togethers with fellow porcine in pastry devotees.

Wiki also points out that ” Pork pie or Porkie Pie, often shortened to porky, is the Cockney rhyming slang term for lie ” Now how could lying and Hurley be connected together? Let’s see… ( Oceanic 6)….I can’t think of anything off hand (telling Sawyer he’s being banished) nothing really comes to mind….(tricking people into thinking he was kidnapped, tied up in closet) …Oh well, I give up. πŸ˜‰

LOST Thought : It’s About Bunnies Update

First, I would like to say a quick “Hello” to all the new viewers to ” It’s About Bunnies” from Lostzilla and Holli Jo’s Lost.onabc.tv. .

“It’s About Bunnies” is a fairly young blog ( since mid April, 2008 ) but it has been growing pretty quickly. It is the Featured Blog under the “Lost” catagory, as well as several other tags. Each month has far surpassed it previous one. Now today, it was on the list of ” Blogs of the Day (Growing Blogs)” on WordPress for the first time. And it is because you are reading it, asking for snippets on your podcast, linking it to your own site and/or posting a swell write up on your own blog. Or maybe you did none of that and you accidentally clicked on the link thinking it was about raising pet rabbits.

Regardless, it may not seem like much. But to me, it is. And I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you spending time here at the Bunnies Hatch. Thanks, again 8)

LOST Thoughts : Dark UFO’s Fantasy/Prediction League

I just signed up for Dark UFO’s Season Five Fantasy League a day or two ago. It is much like a Sports Fantasy league. You “build” and name your team by making picks from various “players” and use a point systems ( + and – ) to tally your score. The winner with the most points at the end of the season even gets a prize(s). They also have several mini leagues to choose from that you join. When the season starts, you can check your “stats” at your mini team’s site. They do it all for you. (Thanks Dark UFO/mini league teams! ) πŸ™‚

There is also a Prediction League when you can guess where you can make you best guess as to what and/or when things will happen in Season 5 of Lost.

But you must hurry to be a part of Fantasy and/or Prediction League(s). Sign up’s are only for the next day or two, probably before the Lost Panel at ComicCon on Saturday. For the Predition League, they will close it after the first 10,000 submissions prior to the start of the season.

Thanks to Dark UFO in their quest in making LOST even more fun and exciting ( and obsession inducing) πŸ˜‰

Here are my Fantasy League Season 5 picks:

The It’s About Bunnies Team

Richard Alpert
Vincent
Hurley Reyes
Walt Lloyd
Ji-Yeon Kwon
Libby
Horace Goodspeed
Daniel Faraday

LOST Thoughts : Sawyer Nickname Origin # 8

Sawyer uses the name ” Al Jazeera” as a nickname for Sayid in the episode Tabula Rasa (Season One). But Charlie rightfully corrects Sawyer for using the name of a network for a nickname.

When you substitute a word inappropriately for another that closely resembles it, it is called a malaproprism. It is common in comedic writing, mainly to show either ignorance and/or arrogance of a character, in this case James Ford.

Probably one of the most famous malprop-droppers in pop culture history is Archie Bunker, tv’s ” bigot with the heart of gold “, from the 70’s phenomenon that was ” All in the Family“.

Here are a handful of some of Archie’s classic verbal mishaps ( from “The Wit and Wisdom of Archie Bunker “, Popular Library featured in Language Awareness, Second Addition, Eschholz/Rosa/Clark, Copyright 1978 St. Martins Press).

” It ain’t German to this conversation.”
” It’s like looking for a needle in a hayride.”
” Looking like it’s straight outta Missle Impossible.”
” You been standing on that phone like a pillow of salt.”
” And position is nine-tenths of the law, right?”
” It’s the survivor of the fitness!”
” Call it a father’s intermission….but I smell a rat.”
” You gotta grab the bull by the corns and heave-ho.”
” He’s comin’ over to claim his pound of fish.”
” Whoever sent ’em obviously wanted to remain unanimous.”
” It’s like trying to make a sow’s purse outta silk!”
” For better or for worse, in secrets and in health till death do us part?”

LOST Thoughts : Hurley Nickname Origin #1

Now as you probably know, Sawyer isn’t the only one to bust out the ol’ nicknames every once in a while. Today it’s Hugo’s turn.

” Johnny Fever” was given to the Federal Marshall who temporarily captured
Kate Austen but became severally distracted by a large, infected gaping gut wound and an out of control body temperature.

Dr. Johnny Fever (played by Howard Hesseman) was one of the eccentric disc jockeys on the hit sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati” (1978-1982). According to Wikipedia, Dr. Johnny Fever (John Caravella) “often uses a stage name, notably including Johnny Cool, Johnny Duke, Johnny Style, Johnny Midnight, Johnny Sunshine, Rip Tide and Heavy Early.” ( Judging from all the aliases, he’d probably give some of the Losties’ flashbacks a run for their money πŸ™‚ )

” WKRP in Cincinnati” was about a small, midwestern rock and roll radio station and its trying to stay afloat in its market with a cast of wacky characters getting into some sort of trouble, with the station and/or personal relationships. It’s most famous for their “Thanksgiving Episode” and the unfortuate incident that ensues from lack of knowledge of turkeys’ ” limitations” πŸ˜‰ .

Maybe Edward Mars WAS a part time DJ , “spinin’ the wax” for the Federal Marshalls’ radio station? I’m guessing he probably sounded something like this….

(Station call letters *sings* ” WFED!” ) ” Alright, babies. I hear ya cryin’. And it ain’t for ya “Ba Ba” …and it ain’t for ya “Ma Ma”, babies. It’s for what the Doctor’s got for ya. That’s right, little ones. Givin’ ya what ya need…what Dr. Eddie Mars has ordered. It’s a “double shot” of Geronimo Jackson . Dig it!

LOST Thoughts: Sawyer Nickname Origin # 7

Sawyer uses the term “boy” for various people in the first few episodes (Sayid, Boone, Ed Mars) and probably peppered throughout the series. It seems that he uses it sometimes in ways to belittle others that he percieves to be trying to assert some sort of “power” over him. That they “know their place” . James needs to know that he has the upper hand in every situation. But it could also be seen as a generic or benign , bordering on friendly, word, like when he is speaking about the wounded Marshall, Edward Mars. Mars wasn’t exactly showing aggresion with “a piece of medal the size of my head stickin’ outta his bread basket ” πŸ™‚

Most likely though, I’m guessing it’s probably just used as a “standard” Southern colloquialism. But hey, I think it’s about bunnies. So what do I know πŸ˜‰

LOST Thoughts : LOST Unlocked Podcast

The LOST Unlocked podcast is not on LOST Podcasting Network (that I can detect). If I missed it on there , I apologize. If it’s not, I thought I’d talk about it here at It’s About Bunnies.

Chris & Brian have been doing LOST Unlocked for at least two years. They sound like they are having a good time pondering the theories ( and IMO, are fun to listen to) ,occasionally do parodies and are very SPOILER FREE (and from what I have heard so far, it’s a “clean” rated show). And they will be doing shows throughout the hiatus. Sweet!

If this sounds like your kind of podcast, why not give LOST Unlocked a try πŸ™‚ !

LOST Thoughts : Traveling – The LOST Way

Taking a look around the Net for interesting LOST stuff, I stumbled upon this article about how fans are going to Oahu, Hawaii to seek out sites to visit that are relevent to the show by Gary A. Warner of the OCRegister . I have also added a couple sites on the Blogroll, one mentioned in the article, one of a link on that site. ( LOST Hummer Tours and Lost Virtual Tour)

Ah…someday…someday…:)

LOST Thoughts: Sawyer Nickname Origin # 6

In Season One episode ” Tabula Rasa”, this is the first time we hear the nickname “Freckles” (Kate Austen) where the Island’s initial ” Oceanic 6″ (Kate, Sawyer, Charlie, Shannon, Boone, and Sayid ) are sitting around the campfire, talking about what just happened to them (the crash) and what didn’t happen for a mysterious French woman some 16 years ago (rescue).

Obviously, Sawyer calls her ” Freckles” because….well, she has FRECKLES! πŸ™‚ But there has been speculation that in Season 3’s Finale ” Through the Looking Glass ” , our corn fed fuggie from Iowa appears to have lost her trademark marks. With Desmond’s and Daniel’s dimensional discoveries, digited does (rabbits) and “do over ” dead (?) doctors , could the dappleless damsel be a doppelganger? ( I think I just sprained something with that last sentence πŸ˜‰ )

LOST Thoughts : ” Beautiful Son” Documentary

I have been recently made aware of a wonderful documentary called “Beautiful Son” made by Don King and his wife Julianne about their active search for a cure for Autism (for their son, Beau, as well as countless others).

Mr. King is a cinematographer and you may have seen some of his gorgeous work in movies like Cast Away, Blue Crush, Charlie’s Angels : Full Throttle, Die Another Day and some tv show….the name escapes me…oh , yeah. LOST πŸ™‚ !

“Beautiful Son” has won Best Documentary and Audience Award at the Hawaiian International Film Festival ( just screening the clip on the site, I can see why ). If you would like to find out more about the film and the search for a cure for Autism , please go to Beautifulson.com . Thank you

LOST Video : Lost – The Synchronizing

This was mentioned on Generally Speaking’s LOST Podcast and linked on their forum by CMSawyer (Thanks πŸ™‚ ) . It is a video of the events of the crash of Oceanic 815. It is spectacularly edited by NDHatch for youtube. It’s amazes me what some people can do with a little time, technology and talent. πŸ™‚
