LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep 15 – Across the Sea or Symboling Rivalry

Wow…this was quite an episode. Might go down as the most talked about in the series history. So, I might as well talk about it here too. 🙂

( If you want to hear more thoughts, stop by the Lost Revisited Now podcast Episode 107 for the Initial Reaction show for ” Across the Sea”. )

Two Babies, Two Sides
: Mother seemed to want to hold the BIB. Claudia only asked for “him” , first born Jacob , not “them”. “Are you ‘him’?” = Desmond’s question to who he thought was to be his “replacement”, John Locke. Mother looking for a “replacement”. It turned out to be Jacob. Jacob is looking for his “replacement” in the candidate. Or (as Wray suggested in “comments” last week) could the candidate be for something else entirely?

What’s in a Name?
: In some traditions, like Judaism, there is a spiritual connotation to naming a child- that it would be telling of who they are , “their essence”, and would grow to be by the significance of the names chosen for them. In Hopi legend, it is several years and many names given to a child until what seems to best suit who he/she is , personality-wise, that a final name is selected. In Rome, where Claudia was most likely from, the father, not the mother, would decide the name, about eight days later after birth…and that’s if he decided the child would live or not! Where in ancient Egypt, of where we have seen a lot of reference to that culture on the show, the parents would waste not time in naming the baby after their birth, often siting a physical characteristic of the infant. But here…we have no name still for Man in Black. Is he the powerful but not forgiving Henry Gale’s boss “Him”, much like the pure evil figure from The PowerPuff Girls? Will a name be insufficient, at this point? At this point, I don’t mind it remaining a mystery.

Bad Twin! Baaaad! : There are so many stories of twin sagas gone wrong: Jacob and Esau of the Old Testament, Osiris and Set from Egyptian lore, Apollo and Artemis from Greek mythology, Romulus and Remus from Roman mythology ( who’s mother was a princess and father the god of war, Mars, who were raised by a she wolf and only one of them could be king, ending in Romulus killing Remus) .So, what’s one more! 😉

One set of twin from where we get the Gemini constellation, are Castor and Pollux, of Greek/Roman mythology. According to Wiki…

“In the myth the twins shared the same mother but had different fathers which meant that Pollux was immortal and Castor was mortal. When Castor died, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together and they were transformed into the Gemini constellation. The pair were regarded as the patrons of sailors, to whom they appeared as St. Elmo’s fire.”

(Well, there have been a few vessels that tend to drop by…or on, the Island.)

Is this what happens with Mother/Jacob, Jacob/Richard MIB/Locke and Sayid, exchanges…even possibly what happens, to some extent, when you become an Other, like Ben- the sharing of immortality? But the “rules” may somehow make immortality…flexible?

Oh, Grow Up!: It’s curious that MIB “saw” his birth mother ( or was it the image “Mother” wanted him to see?) when he was 13 years old. According to Jewish tradition, this is the age of Bar Mitzvah, when a boy becomes a man and becomes responsible for his own understanding of the law, tradition, as well as becoming accountable to morals and ethics. Among the Aborigines of Australia… they send them on … a Walkabout. In some Native American tradition, the rite of passage called Smudge that involves… a sweat lodge. No wonder John Locke was a “custom fit” for the MIB.

Bring Out Your Dead!
: So, MIB could see “Claudia”? Hurley can see the deceased too. And apparently Sawyer…and Desmond, at least as far as mini Jacob is concerned. Is this tied into being “Special”? Mother said that Jacob couldn’t lie and that MIB could because he was “special”… or at least, inferred as such. Hurley is a horrible liar. Sawyer excels at it and is one of the reasons MIB wanted him on his side. So, just because Mother said Jacob couldn’t “see” Claudia” because she was dead…doesn’t mean it was true. Jacob just happened not to be there.

I Wanna Big Wheel, Mom!: We get to at least see the starting of the Donkey Wheel’s presence on the Island. Even if MIB actually got it to work, would he have been able to have left? Would it have shifted time, like it did before? And maybe this is why the Egyptian statue and hieroglyphics show up “later” in the show? MIB taking it for a test run?

Wake Up , Sleepyhead!: Mother disturbs Jacob’s slumber to tell him ” It’s time.” This is where she takes him to the cave, has him drink the wine as the initiation of becoming ” Protector” of the whatever is emanating from it. “You and I are the same now”. Will we see something very similar between Desmond and Ms. Hawking/Mrs.Widmore or even Charles, when he finally “ready” ?

Now You See Me… Now You Don’t: MIB has been looking for that cavern of light for 30 years. Mother can show her “sons” at a moment’s notice. Is it like Jack finally seeing the Lighthouse? It might be that you need to have a certain level of “faith”? And interestingly, in the same way, how was Hurley the only one to find Jacob’s Cabin, despite it moving locations… and he wasn’t looking for it at all?

Tunnel Vision: Looking at that glowing cave, I had to figure there were some kind of references to caves in literary and other “sources”. There are many. I found a fantastic compilation of them here at the studyworld.com site It was quite an interesting and enlightening read …and, for me, made the reveal more “accessible”.

See-ms Like Old Times: The way that MIB was left at the end of the river was very reminiscent of Boone’s vision of Shannon’s death by Smokey in the Season One Episode “Hearts and Minds” . In this episode, there is also a talk between Locke and Jack that is similar to Jacob and MIB in Season Five finale ” The Incident”. MIB ‘s body was entangled in the tree, like how we saw the pilot in The Pilot, after the Smoke Monster actually killed him. Also, his body was tossed aside by the black smoke but we’ve seen Brother since then, just like John Locke is now. In “Hearts and Minds” Locke said to Boone ” What did it make you see?”. Is it the Island? The Smokey Monster? The wacky paste John put on Boone’s head? We still don’t know! Is seeing here like the concept of seeing/showing that Charlie and now Desmond have been utilizing? And is seeing going to be what bridges the gap between what’s real, what’s an illusion and both of Lost’s “worlds?

” You Haven’t Aged a Bit!” : Now, I figure that we are just supposed to chalk up Jack thinking Adam and Eve were only there 40 to 50 years, instead of a couple millennium, because he’s not exactly an expert ( as I know that I talk about stuff I don’t know about all the time…so I can empathize..lol) . But what came to mind was the story of Moses and the Israelites wandering the desert for 40 years and God preserving their clothes so they never fell apart.
Hey, Locke said the Island was a place where miracles happened…so it could work?! 🙂

And lastly, I think I may have solved a major mystery. The cave that contains life, death, rebirth… Mother called ” The Heart of the Island” . The MIB , as far as we know, is a man without a name. In the southernmost part of the United States in Boerne TX, there is a National Park that features The Cave Without a Name. So, does this mean ” The stars at night are big and bright *clap clap clap clap* DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!

Sorry… I couldn’t resist. 🙂

Now, time to set sail across the sea… to land on Episode 16.

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep14- The Candidate or The Island’s Submarine Ballot

Here’s a few extra thoughts about ” The Candidate”. If you would like to hear more about this episode, check out The LOST Revisited Now podcast, Episode #106. 🙂

Interestingly, the word “candidate” comes from the word “candida” in Latin ( “The language of the enlightened”) is the word for “white”. Jacob’s light side, signified by the white stone … these are ( or were) his “chosen”. Another little footnote, “Candida” was the song by Three Dog Night ,that Jerry and Rosie danced to in the Season 5 episode ” LaFleur”.

Sun had Charlie’s ring and she is gone now. Desmond went into the water with the ” Greatest Hits” note. Are Charlie’s sentiments and legacy supposed to be “buried” with him, underwater? Water seems to be associated with Jacob. Is this why Charlie, Sun and Jin died drowning? If MIB is associated with fire, is this why Sayid blew up? But then, what about Ilana? Oh, I don’t know…lol. But I’m curious to see why/how these elements play further into the story.

On the subject of water, with MIB being thrown into it by Jack, how does it affect him? I read/heard someone mention that maybe it just keeps him from changing into the Smoke Monster. I just had a thought. With all the mechanical sounds that it makes, even all the way back in ” Ab Aeterno” times, does water throw off its internal “works”, so to speak?

With Locke and Jack ( one in FS, one in OTL) have flying experience, will this become a factor in them getting off the Island… or tricking MIB?

We see the Apollo bar again when Jack buys it and offers it to his half sister ( in both time-lines), Claire. She refuses ( And like Leslie on Keys To LOST podcast pointed out, is it because she’s on the “dark side” now?) Apollo, in Greek and Roman mythology, was the god of light and the sun, truth and prophesy. He also had a twin sister, Artemis, a hunteress ( twin and hunter…hmm). Apollo was known for being a healer, often with the help of his son, Asclepius. The rod that Asclepius carried has entwined snakes and is used as the symbol caduceus, like on the medical hatch ( I wonder if this is why Jack’s son, David has emerged in the FS time-line. Will he play a role in the “healing”, either physically or with the time-lines?) . But Apollo could bring sickness with him, as well. Apollo was a leader over his people and was a defender and keeper of herds and flocks ( like a shepherd/Shephard?) . He also was connected with music (the Shephard’s proclivity for piano?) I wonder if Grandpa Ray was part of Apollo candy and/or the buying of the company by the Dharma Initiative, in someway, back in the sixties? The family business may not just be in medicine.

If Sayid, in his last moments, came back from the dark side , like Hurley suspected that he could, will we see that happen for Claire? Will she leave on that helicopter with Aaron? Did Charles Widmore have the last of the Oceanic Six behind another double-locked door, next to the sub’s Pylons R’ Us Warehouse? 🙂

With Sun and Jin gone, Claire staying with MIB and Kate shot, Jack not leaving the Island, Desmond being a “sacrifice” of some sort, etc. is this making more and more room for the children of the Losties to play a more forefront role in the end game? It seems like many of our Losties were “orphaned” in a way, – in actuality like James, through neglect, abandonment, separation, etc. It looks like the children are following a similar path. Or is this where “It only ends once…” . I believe it is most likely the latter but I hope that we get to still find out why, especially Walt and Aaron, are “special”.

And finally, R.I.P. to Frank, Jin, Sayid and Sun.

I’ve got a bad feeling it’s not going to get any easier from here. But still going to dive into the next episode #15.

LOST Thoughts : David’s Mother or Jack’s X Wife

During this past little break, I hosted the Bunny Awards on The LOST Revisited Now podcast… which turned into an 8 hour Ramble On cast…lol . One of the mini topics of discussion was “Who is Jack’s son, David’s mother in the flash-sideways? “. Now, the obvious choices are either Juliet or Sarah ( seeing neither relationship with Jack went very far). But since LOST is hearkening back to earlier seasons, I’m thinking why not a callback to a character from a Season Two “crossroads” for Jack, relationship-wise.

Jack had to make a decision to stay with his wife and work things out or start a new relationship with the daughter of a patient, Gabriella ( The Hunting Party) . He chose Sarah… to which, Sarah told Jack she was seeing someone else. So, it would play into the ” But what if he chose Gabriella” scenario. Perhaps, the flash- sideways would have confirmed that the pairing of Jack and Gabriella wouldn’t have been successful there either.

Now, this will most likely not happen but I think it would be fantastic if it did. It is consistent with the storyline without being so “on its sleeve”?

What about you? Are there any character “reveals” that you would have enjoyed seeing or hoping to see, that involve people other than our main characters but still would make sense, in the overall mythology?

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep10 – The Package or It’s Not a What…It’s a (Dr.) Who

This week, we were treated to a Jin/Sun extravaganza called “The Package.

Here are some additional thoughts that I’ve been mulling over since it aired. If you would like to hear more, you can check out ” The LOST Revisited Now”podcast, Episode #99.

If Mr. Paik was having Jin “rubbed out” by Keamy in this X time line, was he going to do the same thing in the original? Is there a “whatever happened, happened” sort of thing going on? If that is the case, what would be Paik reasoning for Jin’s execution? I’m thinking that he didn’t give the complete “message” to the guy who was the auto inspector. That was bad enough. But when Jin couldn’t “finish the job” by killing Jae Lee, the man who was sleeping with his wife, Paik may have deemed him useless, at that point, and would have ordered the hit.

Now, the watch itself. I don’t think that it was for Keamy. We know that at one point in the original time line, Martin worked for Widmore. Widmore and Paik were business associates, even playing golf together. So, I’m guessing that watch was most likely going to Charles in this time line, as well as the original.
The inscription on the original watch read ( in Korean) Congratulations…mutual cooperation…business development… Mr. Paik . That would seem to apply. I’m still wondering who got the first watch in Australia in Season One…and if there was another watch in this time line?

More symbolism with the fruit ( granted, it was from a vine, not a tree) that was offered to Sun by Jack. Jack saying ” I guess it wasn’t told it was supposed to die” with the stubborn tomato symbolizing Sun. This could be a play on ” Ye shall not surely die” said by the serpent to Eve ( even though Adam was told they would if they ate the fruit) . Also, what has been one of Sun and Jin’s biggest obstacles? Fertility issues or ” being fruitful and multiplying”. I have a feeling that their “reunion” may end up taking place in a cave. 😦

The tomato in Italian is called “pomodoro” or “golden apple”. In Greek mythology, the golden apple was known as “the apple of discord” because it was inscribed with the words” to the prettiest one”. This did not sit well with the many goddesses that considered themselves to be the one the golden apple was for. This small squabble is what eventually lead to the Trojan War. And like a wise man once said… a war is coming…and it’s already here.

This week’s mirror images was, first, Sun in the hall mirror ( almost looking like she was seeing something she couldn’t comprehend…even looking through, perhaps). The other, Jin’s, was a side by side image of him from the freezer ( thanks Anna for that one 😉 ) . He is “parallel” to it. Speaking of mirrors, Jin and Sun are standing in front of one the first time she, and the audience, find out what kind of “work” Jin is doing for Mr. Paik, as he is washing away the blood from his hands.

Thought it was funny how Ben was so concerned with Sun’s head injury and if she was ok when not to long ago, Sun whacked him in the noggin with an oar. Oh, how things have changed 😉

I have another lame theory about the plane. Richard said that they need to destroy it. But that is not an easy task without getting caught. And seeing MIB can loosen shackles, can he fix airplanes too. But what if you can’t fly what isn’t there? Maybe Jacob will finally give Ben an actual order, that will require a sacrifice on his part. What if he turns the donkey wheel one last time, causing them to move back in time and the plane “disappearing”. Before, Smokey was just that and wasn’t effected. But this time, he is stuck as “Locke” and has to travel back with them. And the war will take place at the “beginning” of when Widmore and that group first came to be. This would also explain Jack saying the clothes on “Adam and Eve” were about 40-50 years deteriorated. It could be “them” , as Hurley said in “Lighthouse”… and still be aged like that, in 2004. Most likely wrong…but when else can I put it out there. 🙂

Now that Smocke may or may not “need” certain people, will Claire kill Kate? Or will we see her leaving the Island in a helicopter with Aaron (like Desmond saw), quelling Claire’s anger? But how can this happen? I’m thinking there might be more than one “double locked room” on that sub ( but he’d most likely had to share it with several pylons).

Speaking of Desmond, aka The Package…why is he called that? Yes, it paralleled Jin having to deliver a package to Keamy in the flash-sideways. But it just seemed so strange to call him that. So, I decided to see if there was something about packages involving time travel, science, etc. Sure enough, there is. A physics package is the actual working parts of a nuclear or thermonuclear device. ( Interestingly, the Swan device was one of the first nuclear devices made by the US in 1956, the year Richard went to see Locke be born and the name of the Hatch where Des turned the fail safe key). Hmm… didn’t we have the core of the Jughead setting things off for time travel last season? Is this how Desmond is “uniquely and miraculously special”? Can he, in a sense, act as a “bomb”, capable of affecting time, personally and on a whole?

And last but not least… Frank misses bacon. 🙂

Now, onto unwrapping the gift that is this week’s new episode…#11.

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep7 Dr. Linus or Napoleon + Dynamite

We are now mere hours away from a new episode of LOST. In the meantime, just thought I’d talk about a couple things from last weeks episode that I forgot to mention on this week’s LOST Revisited Now podcast.

In ” Dr. Linus” , we saw, among Sawyer’s Stash O’ Stuff, a book by Chaim Potok entitled ” The Chosen” . While getting info on the novel (www. sparknotes.com) , I noticed there we many things contained in it that parallel the overall story of LOST itself such as …

It had not one main character but two and their stories ran “parallel” with each other.

The stories of two boys, both Jewish ( one a traditional Othrodox and the other a more “modern minded” Hasidic ) are told through the use of pairs, parallels, compliments and contrasts ( much like the X timeline)

Also, the was the idea of ” Silence as a path to the soul” ( Jack at the Lighthouse…staring at the ocean)

Some themes were Conflicts of Tradition vs Modernity ( Faith vs Science) and Choosing vs Being Chosen ( Free Will vs Fate).
Other parts covered in the book are: Father and Son relationships ( Daddy Issues) , Perception ( a much debated topic in the LOST community 😉 ) and suffering ( ” We are the cause of our own suffering” – Room 23, Not in Portland , Season 3).

Symbolism: Eyes and Eyeglasses ( the eye opening, Sawyer’s glasses) and the Talmud ( Book of Laws, The Rules)

On a more abstract note, we also got quite a few nods to one of the most notorious world leaders in history and his similarity to the plight of Mr. Linus. Sorry…DR. Linus. But with the high school setting and its inner “politics”, Richard and his death wish at the Black Rock, and the appearance of Jon Gries and his whispering of the trademark “YES!” as he glanced over his microwave turkey dinner, I couldn’t help but make these parallels.

One a magnetic and power hungry French General turned Emperor, turned exiled prisoner, turned leader of France again and finally, exiled prisoner… yet again. The other a little low budget teen flick with some of the most lethargic characters to ever hit the silver screen . They couldn’t be more different … and yet their similarities are astounding.

What does this have to do with LOST, you say? I say what doesn’t this have to do with LOST?

Honestly… I don’t know. Just thought it was funny. 😉

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep6 Sundown or Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Temple

After this episode, there’s something that has kind of stayed with me. It just keeps playing over and over in my head…like some kind of creepy little tune . However, I will try to ignore it and focus on a few thoughts/questions that have come to mind.

Charles Widmore was “banished” from the Island. Sayid was “banished” from the Temple until he was asked to come back because something changed ( the rules maybe?) So, will Widmore eventually be asked back to the Island?

Ash around the Temple…Claire could pass over it. Just more confirmation the infected are not affected. But that is not true of Smocke. What is in that ash that can keep him at bay?

Talking and Smocke : Is there "power" in his words? He said he would only kill those "who wouldn't listen". Or is this merely figurative? It was important enough for Sayid to lie to Dogen about stabbing Smocke first and then he spoke.

Claire could order Dogen to speak English, just like Hurley ordered him out of the Temple hall. Benefits of being a past/present candidate or something else?

Hugo and Jack’s names were mentioned together by Ilana and Sawyer’s separately. Is this because she’s away of the potential “sides” they may occupy… or just me reading too much into it again? 😉

Again the word “safe” or some variation of it in this episode. I counted 5 times. What is the overall importance of the frequency of the use of it, if any?

For his son’s life, Dogen left for the Island forever to do a new”job”. What was this work and the ability that he had to keep Smocke from entering the Temple ( and that he had to be killed over it)?

Another mystery box… a wooden one ( Hi Nancy Drew! 😉 ) . Could what these boxes contain be weapons of some sort that have the potential of killing Smocke? Do they contain other important Island related artifacts? Or are they just fancy containers to hold pencils in? You decide!

Let out of airport jail only to be thrown into a restaurant cooler! Was Keamy who Jin was supposed to deliver the watch to… or someone Martin worked for?

Looks like Smocke and Jacob both used similar bargaining techniques. But Jacob’s deal with Dogen required him commit an act of self-sacrifice for love. Smocke’s required an act of sacrifice of others ( in this case , actual Others) for it. But in the FS, Sayid did something similar to what Dogen did for Nadia. Is this just Island story mirroring or a clue?

Ilana finds the same symbol on the Temple wall that Hugo found earlier that Jacob led him to. It appears to be the Omega, which is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Behind it was a “panic room” of sorts. Was Jacob showing Hugo where this was because if Jack wouldn’t leave, it would have been the only way to get out when the “end’ (Omega) comes?

Nadia’s picture: Why did they use this picture that the FBI used to get Sayid to catch his friend that was part of an attempted bombing and not the one that Nadia gave him when he helped her escape in Iraq? Was Sayid still involved in stopping his friend and Nadia still a student? Error or another clue?

Getting her first look at the new “Locke”, Kate is understandably dumbfounded. But his look back at her seemed to me of more of a ” I’m not quite sure what you’re about”. As if he is almost being “shielded” from who she might be. If that is the case, then why?

Sayid said the Others put needles into him. Claire claimed that they did the same thing to her. Is this what happened or is she recalling what Ethan did? And do these needles that both of them experienced have any involvement of the 481516342 serum , like what was in the Swan Hatch?

The brother of Sayid, Omar, said that he paid Keamy off and that he keeps wanting interest. Keamy was an extortioner but denied hurting Omar, even seemed indignant about it. So, is it possible that Omar hurt himself because what he originally wanted was Sayid to kill Keamy and his henchmen? Maybe he had it set up, knowing that if Nadia and the kids could be in danger, he would react exactly how he did? Far-fetched … or yet another “long con”? At this point, will we ever really know…lol?

A frightened Ben approached Sayid with means of escape…but is “too far gone”. Is Ben now going to play on Jacob’s team , for real this time, now that he found out he was used by Smocke? Or will Ben be a Wild Card, doing whatever works for him, at the time?

Rain falls after Sayid agrees on the deal he has made with Smocke. Rain often accompanies the Smoke Monster, especially notably in Season One. Jacob was burned up with fire and Ilana took the ash, most likely for more protection.

Let’s see fire made the ash and Smokey brings rain. Fire + Water. Does that mean I have to go back and watch that Charlie episode to figure this out?

That’s all for now. I’m eggcited for Episode 7 this week ( Sorry for that pun. Guess Claire’s not the only confused girl). 🙂

LOST Thoughts: S6/Ep5- Lighthouse or A Chip Off the Old Doc

We are seeing the beginning of things “coming to light” for Jack, in this episode. As for me, still in the dark ( Hey, it’s LOST) . Nevertheless, I’m going to steer towards this episode, despite risking peril of heading for the rocks 😉

( If you want to hear other thoughts about this episode I (as well as Heath) had, check out The Lost Revisited Now Podcast, Episode 87 “Lighthouse”) .

GalleyHurley tells this unknown man where the kitchen is. But wouldn’t he recognize one of his own people and that anyone else was an Other and probably knew where it was? Odd, but eh… probably just something to say dialog-wise for the reveal of Jacob.

Bilge Water– Jacob is sitting by the contaminated spring. Will he “heal” the water…or is it too late? As he and Hurley are standing by the spring, it seems that Jacob is more concerned about someone that is coming to the Island and that he needs Hugo’s help.

Toe the Line– Hurley is confronted by Dogen in the Temple halls. He is looking at a hieroglyph that resembles the circular broach that Ms. Hawking was wearing in “Flashes Before Your Eyes”. Dogen tells him to leave but is thwarted by Hugo telling him that he is a candidate ( thanks to Jacob). Dogen is shocked at how he knows this and has to let Hurley do what he wants to. So, why is this? What makes a candidate so special that someone like Dogen must genuflect to their wishes? One thing we do know, according to the translation, is that he has to protect Hurley … or otherwise, he’d cut off his head.

Groggy– Another mystery wound. Jack can’t seem to remember having his appendix taken out. His mother said that he was about 7 or 8 and that Christian wanted to take it out but they wouldn’t let him. This is a lot like how Jack wanted to take out his own appendix, on Island, in Something Nice Back Home (Season 4). But in that flashback, he had no scar. Time line bleed? Error in Season 4? Is this because that’s where X marks the spot …of when the time lines “crossed” (1977)?

Also, Margo seemed concerned ” Why, don’t you remember?” Jack is playing like he did. Is this like Daniel Faraday but in reverse? As if Jack (as well as other Losties) are having memories added instead of taken away.
Before this scene, Jack walks by a picture in his house that may or may not be … black smoke.

Back and Fill – Hurley and Miles playing Tic Tac Toe (dark X’s, light O’s) ending in yet another tie. Is this foreshadowing of the endgame or will we have resolution? Personally, I’m hoping for the later. “It only ends once…”

Half pint– Jack was in a hurry because he had to pick up his son, David, from school. His SON?! Of course, the next question is “Who is his mother?” and is it someone we know, someone new or do we need to know? For now, we are not shown who she is ( but we know that she keeps her key under a white rabbit the same way one was kept at the hotel in ” Some Like it Hoth”) . Jack is divorced again in this time line too. Is Sawyer right about some people are just meant to be alone? Will this be the fate for all … or at least, most,of our Losties?
David is another musician…a pianist like Jack, Daniel, Charlie, Ben. And who was David listening to that he thinks Jack wouldn’t have heard of (Geromino Jackson? DriveShaft? The Beach Boys? Himself…since Jack didn’t know David was playing anymore 😉 ) ?

Listening to LOST Unlocked podcast, I heard Chris and Brian mentioned David from the Bible. How he was a shepherd ( David Shephard) and was a musician who wrote the majority of the Psalms (including The 23rd Psalm, which was an Ekocentric episode from Season 2).

Another thing about David is that he was a candidate to be king of Israel. Samuel the Prophet was instructed by God to go to find the future king amongst this particular family. The father Jesse brought out all of his sons..or so he said. None of the sons were the right person. Then Samuel asked Jesse if he had any more sons. Jesse offhandedly said his youngest David, the eighth son ,was out tending sheep. Turns out David was the one, whether his father thought he “had what it takes” or not. 😉

First Rate– Jack is excited to tell David that he had cable set up for him so he can watch the Red Sox play ( failing to notice that David is a Dodgers fan, which we learn from their 4 pictures together with his LA hat on… the last with the cap turned “sideways” with the LA “disappearing” …hmmm. )

Jack also sees that David is reading the “Annotated Alice” (in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass) and talks about how he read it to him when David was little (just like Aaron, S4) . David wanted to hear about Kitty and Snowdrop. These characters are two kittens of Alice’s cat , Dinah. Snowdrop is white and Kitty is black. Also, Kitty is the one who was actually the Red Queen and the one responsible for Alice’s dream. Will the dark side be the one orchestrating this “dream” called LOST (please, don’t let it actually be a dream…lol)? (Thanks to Glen who first sent me some info on the subject 8) ) .

Windfall– After much searching, Margo and Jack find the Last Will and Testament of Christian Shephard. But there is someone unfamiliar mentioned in it… a Claire Littleton! So, is this telling us that Christian would have had an affair with Carole and had a baby regardless? Or will Claire be the child of someone else and had another association with him? I’m guessing that she is still his child… that whatever happened, happened. But David didn’t exist before in the other timeline. Will this somehow tie into why we saw a pregnant Sarah Shephard in the Season 3 finale?

Fathom– Hurley can’t imagine how he’s going to get Jack to follow him to where they need to go. Jack can’t figure out how Hurley (or this “Jacob”) knows about ” Having what it takes”. Hurley is wondering how those bodies got in the cave. Jack can’t understand why Kate has the same backpack as his son, David in the flash sideways. Or at least, that’s what I think it looks like that’s what he’s thinking 😉

Leeway– Claire is the one to mention the word “safe” this week ” We’ve got to get you somewhere safe” (to Jin, when she busts him out of that bear trap).

Loose Cannon– And speaking of Claire, she seems a little unstable, which is punctuated by the fact she has a homemade Psycho- style “infant” in a crib and swings a mean ax. But can you blame her. She’s been stuck with needles, branded and had her baby stolen by the Others. Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Spin a Yarn– At least she is under that impression from what Jin told her. Or didn’t tell her. Wanting to save a life… and at this point, his own, he tells Claire that Kate has Aaron. But seeing that “The Others Don’t Have Your Baby” story didn’t suit her ( with a dead Justin for claire-ification), Jin then says that Aaron is back at The Temple.

Jury Rigging– Jack has spent his whole life (and the flash-sideways) trying to fix what is broken. But why Dr. Shephard came back to the Island was so someone/something could “fix” him for a change. But he is under the impression that it didn’t work and has to go back to “home remedies”. At least until he reached…

Skyscraper– The Lighthouse

Jack: ” How could we have not seen this before?”
Hurley: ” Maybe because we weren’t looking for it “.

( Mirror of Locke telling Sun, about here ring, that if you want to find something, you have to stop looking for it, Season 2)

The Island’s lighthouse may be patterned after
The Lighthouse of Alexandria
, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was, at one point considered one of the tallest structures in the world.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria was the inspiration for
The Tower of Hercules
in Spain , named after the figure from Greek mythology. The legend was that Hercules, who was half man, half god, fought a giant for 3 days and nights. Then when he emerged victorious, took his severed head and weapons and buried so the land can be used to erect the tower.

Let’s see… Dogen was going to cut Hurley’s head off, Hercules cut off the head of a giant, Justin was threatening to break Claire’s neck and Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts favorite phrase was ” Off with their heads!!!” At this point , it might be wise to invest in some Kevlar chain-meal turtlenecks.

Chew the Fat: This was a different Dogen that Jack encounters in the flash sideways, making small talk at the conservatory try outs ( where candidates are welcome 🙂 ) . Dogen says David has a gift (special?) and that “It’s hard to watch and not be able to help” ( a parallel to Jacob and the Losties?) .
Not sure why yet but are seeing more and more of these people from the Island congregating in the same area with the Losties.

Charting a Course– In the Lighthouse, Jacob’s ” Master List” can be found on a huge wheel, connected to four very revealing mirrors. In those mirrors, we saw Sawyer’s church for parents funeral, the temple of the Kwon wedding in The Incident and Jack’s childhood home (where he was told by Christian ” You just don’t have what it takes.”)
These were all points in their lives that solidified much of direction their life’s path would lead them. But knowing that Jacob was watching him enraged, instead of endeared Jack and the mirrors were promptly smashed to bits (along with any other cluey goodness 😉 ).

The wheel, however, remains in tact. Some names we know ( Austen, Linus, Friendly, Brennan ( Kate’s boyfriend or from Rousseau’s team?) … some names not so familiar, at least not yet. One of those that might still be of significance is 108- Wallace. There are people that have been named Wallace in history, philosophy, science, etc. But I would like to think that this could be a nod to Wallace “Wally” West, otherwise known as The Flash.

Wallace West became The Flash at the age of 10 when something went a rye in his uncle’s laboratory. His character was the first introduce the concept of “parallel worlds” in comic books. He, along with The Green Lantern, were the “stars” in the comic series ” Faster Friends” … that made an appearance on the Island because of Hurley. But it was another character that it is associated with more. And he might have been 10 years old when he got his “powers” like the Flash did? At least, that’s how old he was when got to the Island.

The name ” Wallace” means “one from the South” ( Australia?) One of the variations or nicknames for Wallace is Walt. Walter is German and means “Ruler of an army” . And how can you fight a war without an army?

Sure, they could have put Lloyd on the wheel… but what fun would that be! His mother , father and adoptive father, could have potentially changed his name multiple times. What he would be named was even a bone of contention before Walt was even born. This way, he is just stays “Waaaaalt!” to Jacob/MIB. And just because your name is crossed off, doesn’t mean your dead. It just means your not a candidate, for one reason or another. But it doesn’t mean your “out of the running” for something else ( You watch! Next week, we’ll find out “Lloyd” is on the wheel and there goes the theory! But hey, that’s part of the fun. 😉 )

Giving a Wide Berth
– Hurley couldn’t understand why they couldn’t just tell Jack to go to the lighthouse. Jacob said some people can be told in the back of a cab. Jack is the kind that has to figure out on his own. Did it just turn out that Jack actually was the one who Hugo help to “arrive”?

Batten Down the Hatches
– If Jacob is right, it’s too late to warn the Temple people. What will this mean for “half-hearted” Sayid, Miles, Dogen and the rest? Because Jin’s on his way back and on his heels are Claire Bunyan and her “friend”, the big Smokey (L)ox.

Is Jack just a figurehead or someone who , to paraphrase the former John Locke, is a leader that just needs to know where he’s going? Can’t wait to find out the answer to this and much more as we forge ahead towards Episode 6. 🙂

LOST Thoughts : S6/Ep4 – The Substitute or To Locke, With Love

Considering the time of year, this episode acted as a sort of “valentine” for the now “retired” Hunter/Boxman , John Locke.

Stopgap: Trying to get out of his blue van ( Dharma likes their vehicles blue too) Locke decides to jump his wheelchair off the uncooperative chair lift to the ground instead of asking for help. And we get an illustration of either ” a leap of faith” or ” Pride coming before a fall “( You decide 😉 ) . Then John gets hit with the lawn sprinklers. Not quite as exhilarating as the Island rain. But LOST’s ” Charlie Brown” has got something going for him. He got his ” Little Red Haired Girl” , Helen, to fall for him…and the wedding is in October.

Backup:
As John is getting cleaned up from his trip from Australia, drinking from his (mostly) black and white mug, Helen is thinking of another plan for their nuptials. Why not just elope? They can just take her parents and his dad and go to Vegas for a shotgun ( Willie?) wedding. But John says Helen deserves better and wants to go through with the big day, as scheduled.

But hold on…rewind… Locke’s dad?! Since when is Anthony Cooper welcome anywhere around them? Did John, as well as Helen, forgive him ? It appears so since Locke even has a screen-cap of the two of them hunting from “Deus Ex Machina” in his cubicle) Did Cooper have nothing to do with Locke’s paralysis and/or lack of kidney and there is no need for fence mending ? I guess we are right back to wondering how John got in that chair again…just like in the first half of the series.

Mock: Monster “Locke” POV… brilliant! We got a brief glimpse of that in ” The 23rd Psalm” a few seasons ago but not to this extent. And he/it was on a mission: It’s Recruitin’ Time!

Pinch – hitter:
From the makers of Locke in a Box comes Alpert in a Bag! Yes, Alpert in a Bag. First take Richard and “marinate” him in spicy, cryptic talk about chains. “Tenderize” by chopping him directly in the Adam’s Apple . “Shake” as you carry his unconscious body over your shoulder. Then take Alpert, place him in a canvas bag, half beaten (make sure that’s only half) , and let him “stew” overnight…right in the bag! Just four easy steps and you too can have your own Island adviser! (Level of servitude results may vary)

Reserve: They had a place for Locke at the conference in Australia…but he was a no show. Randy: “We sent you to Sydney on the company’s dime” . This is similar to the travel agent telling Locke he couldn’t go on the Walkabout ( “We can send you back to Sydney on our dime”). Where did Locke go for that week? Was it to see Issac of Aluru after the travel office turned him down? Is that where he got his tan that Randy made mention of? Widmore talked about Ben having a tan too in ” Shape of Things to Come”. This was after Ben turned the donkey wheel. Was Locke in a place where he had a similar experience?

Makeshift : Since there has recently been an “adjustment” in the Richard/Jacob working relationship, Smocke decided to let Mr. Alpert know that there is a spot open in his organization. “But why do you look like Locke?” Richard inquires. Smocke said it was because Locke would give him access to Jacob. But we saw them talking to each other in ” The Incident”. Access= loophole? Richard refuses his offer. Richard didn’t know about what a candidate was. Jacob never mentioned it. Richard also couldn’t see the blond boy with the bloody arms, standing in the jungle ( Jacob? Aaron? Someone else?). Is it because of the time shift? The shift of power?

Changeling: Ben lies to Ilana about his role in the murder of Jacob. Jacob’s body is now white ash that Ilana is collecting. Will this contain Smocke again or will this be to “heal” the water at The Temple? If it was Jacob’s ash that was protecting them all this time… how many times has this “man” died? Smocke said he used to be a man. Did Jacob “used to be” a man too?

Second When Smocke finally pays Sawyer a visit, we hear the song ” Search and Destroy” by Iggy and the Stooges playing again. We heard it the first time when Smocke was scoping out Dharmaville. (The first time he went to “Search” out James… was the second time meant to be “Destroy”?).

The same song was repeating. Was Sawyer just playing it over and over?
A couple posts ago, I talked about his original ” Dear Mr. Sawyer” letter. In it, he repeats the same paragraph multiple times. Is this a loop? Purely obsession, even at an early age?

This scene in the house reminded me of the miniseries “The Stand” ( haven’t read the book ) when Randall Flagg goes “recruiting” and finds Lloyd Hendreid, a thief/murder who was abandoned in a jail cell after the plague took the lives of its inhabitants. Lloyd was suicidal and vulnerable. Flagg released him from his confinement ( Richard/chains?) and Lloyd became his right hand man, despite figuring out who Flagg really was (just like Sawyer knowing that this wasn’t Locke anymore and went with him anyway, even with Richard’s fearful warning later on).

Ghost-writer Sawyer doesn’t care if Smocke’s “dead or time travelin’ or the Ghost of Christmas Past”! (referring to Charles Dickens ” A Christmas Carol” ) So, Smocke is The Ghost of Christmas Past and Sawyer called himself The Ghost of Christmas Future last season. Now, we just got to wait and see who The Ghost of Christmas Present is (Desmond, perhaps?) .

Speaking of Desmond and Charles Dickens, I got an email from Hooray4Hawking that mentioned about the 140 years earlier that Jacob and MIB were talking in The Incident (according to the pop up version of LOST). Smocke said that ” Of Mice and Men” was “after his time”. But that beach talk would make it around the time that Dickens had written “Our Mutual Friend”. ( Thanks Hooray4Hawking 8) )

Temp Hugo not only owns the box company that Locke works for…worked for…but he also owns an employment agency. John didn’t want to answer the “What kind of animal ” Dharma Initiative recruiting type questions asked by the fortune teller from ” Tricia Tanaka is Dead”. Locke wants to see the supervisor who is…. Rose Nadler! John insists on having that manly construction job ( Reminded me of the ” I like boxing and sports!” speech he gave to his adviser of why he wasn’t going to go to Mittlelos Science Camp). But Rose thinks that you’ve got to deal with where you’re at and keep living…and that John should make a living doing something else.

Understudy: And that something else is teaching children about “Human Reproduction” from Chapter 4 in the textbook ( Locke’s number). Going to take a break in the Teacher’s Lounge, John runs into the fastidious Keeper of the Coffee Pot, Benjamin Linus: European History (nice scene segue since Ben’s main concern was with the fertility issues on the Island)!

Let’s see. We knew Hurley owned the box company in Tustin. But now, he owns a temp agency there too. Ben is in the Tustin area (born in Portland). Rose is in the Tustin area ( from the Bronx). Ethan is nearby. In this timeline, it appears that they are all merging in or around this town. This got me thinking about what is so special about Tustin, CA?

In Tustin, there is a place called The Bae Institute Advanced Space and Energy Technologies. They have invented a workable photon laser thruster. They are also working on things like Photon Tether Formation Flight and satellite technology the size of ping pong balls. A lot of concepts that were comic book fodder since the 1950’s, they are attempting, and even succeeding in some areas.

The Bae Institute of Immune Inhancement
is where they are working on alternative healing techniques.

Tustin has also been a place with quite a few UFO sightings as well ( which was one of the alluded to topics that were discussed on the “Mysteries of the Universe” ARG this hiatus).

To me, it sounds very similar to what the Dharma Initiative were studying. Coincidence? Maybe…but then again… 🙂

Symbolic The young blonde boy with his bloody arms/hands. Was this to represent MIB murdering Jacob ? Is that Jacob we saw? Aaron? Someone we have yet to meet? “You know the rules. You can’t kill him!” Who? Richard? Sawyer? Jacob? Locke ( in a crackpot sort of way 😉 ? Why could James see the boy but not Richard. With them both Sawyer and Alpert wearing essentially the same dark blue button down shirt, is James now going to become an “advisor” like Richard? Both Jack in Locke’s vision in ” Further Instructions ” and Desmond wore dark blue button down shirts. Is this a sign of rank or a type of uniform?

Imitation: According to Ilana, MIB can’t change his face and that he is stuck being Locke. Is this why he is starting to pick up mannerisms, phrases, etc. that once belonged to John? Is he going to continue to be more like Locke, not just on the outside?

Supplanter : This was what the name Jacob meant in the Bible. It also meant one who grasps, trips up, or deceives. MIB said that that is what Jacob was doing, coming to people when they were vulnerable ( you mean like when he went to a drunk , grieving Sawyer 😉 ). Smocke accused Jacob of pushing people to come to the Island ( Jacob to Jack: ‘Guess it just needed a little push” ). This was all to find a candidate to take over protecting the Island. But why did Jacob go to so much trouble if it was as meaningless as Smocke said?

Additional : We got to see The Numbers in what we are told is Jacob’s cave. Dozens and dozens of names written and mostly, crossed out. Were these only crossed out because of death? Being claimed? But 6 names read clearly …
4: Locke
8: Reyes (Did Hurley and Lenny emphasize “EIGHT!” when saying The Numbers because it was Hugo’s # ?)
15: Ford
16: Jarrah
23: Shephard ( presumed Jack but MIB doesn’t answer)
42: Kwon ( “not sure if it’s Jin or Sun…why not both?”)
If these “numbers” are put together (108) will they be the combination to bring this to its potential outcome in the “War”?
Austen wasn’t there. Kate is either completely irrelevant, vitally significant… or just written somewhere in the back.

Question about Locke’s number. If this is Jacob’s cave, he knew that Locke was dead. Ilana and the rest were there to carry Locke in the box. So why didn’t Jacob cross his name off?

Other: Here’s a few more quick points of interest …
Locke loved those checkered shirts ( more “boxes”)
” Sullivan” was one of the names on the wall … the hypochondriac with the rash that liked golf
Mirror image of Ben and Sawyer talking about answers ( two islands) and Of Mice and Men in ” Every Man for Himself” ( Season Three)
There was a stringed instrument in the cave ( Charlie’ s guitar, French teams violin)
The word “Dream” was on two posters at Hugo’s temp agency and ” Live for the present” on a banner in the teacher’s lounge.
Ilana said that The Temple was the “safest” place on the Island ( safe again)
Sawyer to MIB : You’ve got about 20 seconds and then I’m outta here! ” 20 was a number that showed up a lot in Season Five. Look like its back.
Helen ” I’m sick” …of all the wedding preparations, Locke : I’m sick”… about thinking about life outside of this chair. Jack : ” I’m sick” …of lying! ( TTLG, Season 3) I AM SICK on the mural of the Hatch. The Sickness…any connections? We’ll see.
And finally, Ben’s graveside confession mingled with Frank’s reaction… instant classic! 8)

There’s more that I could talk about from this episode… but I’ll stop here. Next stop… Episode 5.

LOST Thoughts : S6/E2 – What Kate Does or Alone Again, (Super?) Naturally

Solely: The first image we see in this episode is of an Other with bare feet, running through a curved hallway in The Temple. It appears that this group of Others do not wear shoes on their feet. Are these the same ones that don’t leave tracks when they roam the jungle?

Doing a little looking around, I found out that there is a Japanese mythological figure , used often in Manga ,( Yuki Onna) that is purported to never leave tracks in the snow and becomes a cloud of mist when threatened. Any connection ? We shall see.

And speaking of threaten, Dogen ( most likely named after 13th Century Buddhist monk Dogen Zenji) grabs the silver cylindrical piece hanging from his necklace whenever things get tense. Does he look at it as a symbol of protection? Since we have/will see more alluding to things that happened in Season One, it would be fun to see Dogen blow into it to call something, like Locke called Vincent with the whistle he made in ” Tabula Rasa” ( maybe to call the very same creature) . 🙂

Vacated: When Sayid “left this earth”, he said that he didn’t see anything. And his most recent memory was of getting shot. This is similar to little Ben after he was taken to The Temple. Ben knew he was hurt but not the circumstances around it, just as Richard said. So, like Ben, will Sayid always be an Other? Or, considering the change in the water, has become something else entirely?

Special: ” As you can see, Hugo here has assumed the leadership position. So… that’s pretty great!” Miles Straume. 🙂

Travelin’ Light :
( Goofy non-theory) Arzt was holding a bug pamphlet on the plane in LA X. Was he in Australia, not to go on an international blind date, like in the mobisode, but to study new species of bugs? He did this on the Island, finding several creatures, including the infamous Medusa Spider ( Expose’, Season 3). Last time, he blew himself up, eliminating the world from knowing about these undiscovered animals and his eventual fame and fortune. This time, Kate had the cab run over Leslie’s luggage, did he have samples of them in those bags? I guess you could say Arzt got to experience his own ” Butterfly Effect”. 😉

Every Man For Himself : Ford ( as called by The Others) isn’t going to hang around The Temple. He’s got better ( or sadder) things to do. He can handle himself. But The Others don’t think so. Kate decides she can track him and convince James to come back. “It’s very important that he comes back safely.” says Lennon. More about that word later.

I-solated : At the chop shop where she got her handcuffs taken off by someone who could have been Tom Friendly’s brother (right down their interaction in Season 3’s “Tale of Two Cities”), Kate is going through Claire’s bag that she took to change clothes had a picture of a pregnant Miss Littleton ( who still is…for now) . She is standing, by herself, pointing down to her protruding belly with pride. Behind her head, on a tapestry or quilt wall hanging, is the letter “I” but the rest is obscured. Could it read ” Am Sick” , like from the painting inside the hatch? And that stuffed Killer whale… it was driving me crazy where I saw that before in the show. Reading E’s Long Live Locke blog reminded me… Aaron had it in Season 4’s ” Something Nice Back Home” . Now, there’s a brain twister ( Thank you, Erica! See, just another wonderful aspect about the LOST fandom. If you forget, there’s always someone whose gonna remember…lol) !

Abandoned: Realizing that Claire was pregnant, Kate goes back to give her her stuff and find out if she needs a ride. Turns out she does, since the adoptive couple of her baby “forgot” to show up at the airport. ” They didnt abandon me”. Claire has “abandonment/daddy issues”, according to Thomas, the father of Aaron from Season One’s ” Raised By Another”. But then it turns out she was abandoned by the newly maritally abandoned Lindsey Baskum. She’s a new name/face to LOST but will we see her again or her husband. Will he be someone important that we will see or already know? His last name doesn’t have to be Baskum. I’m still trying to figure out the whole Widmore/Hawking/Faraday thing… 😀

Solitary : Very reminiscent of the Season One Sayid-centric episode where we first meet Danielle Rousseau. She has him tied/chained down on a rusty cot, electrocutes him, drugs him as she interrogates him about her missing daughter, Alex. Was what Danielle was doing to Sayid akin to the “test” that Dogen was giving him to see if he was “infected” then? Sayid “failed” this test. And he needs to take this little green pill to stop the spread of it. But it turns out to be poison. So, was it to cure him or to kill him? Whatever it was, it wasn’t for the “uninfected” Jack.

Stag: Kate uses the alias ” Joan Hart” again. We first heard it in Season One’s ” Born To Run”. Joan Hart was also the name of the reporter who was the only one who figured out who Damien Thorn really was ( i. e. The Antichrist) in the movie ” The Omen II ( Thanks, Lostpedia! 🙂 ) Is this some bad foreshadowing or is Goober on the up and up?

Empty : Kate follows James to a once vibrant Dharmaville. He lifts up some floorboards to recover a little black bag…with an engagement ring for Juliet. But that’s all over now. ” Some people are just meant to be alone”. But is he?
James tosses the modest diamond into the water, just like Desmond did in “Flashes Before Your Eyes” ( Season 3)
Des got to be with his Penny. However before that, he was told by Eloise that if he didn’t go to the Island and push that button ” Every single on of US is DEAD!”. And it looks like, in the parallel time line, that is exactly what happened. The one day that Des didn’t push the button, the plane crashed, which through subsequent events, led to the Jughead being hit with a rock and the “Island” sinking to the bottom of the ocean shortly afterward, causing the apparent death of the Hostiles (which Ellie is a part of) and any left over Dharma people.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that Dutch coffee date to find out how that turns out.

Single: Well, it looks like Claire is going to raise Aaron after all, once he’s finally delivered by our good friend, Dr. Ethan Goodspeed ( Not Rom. Did he leave in the evacuation of Dharma? Was he born on the Island in the first place? Will he turn out to be Sarah Shephard’s “Other Man” this go around?) . And Claire is not to worry. Those drugs that he gave her/the baby are “safe” ( There’s that word again) .
She names him Aaron, this time before he is born. Both times, Claire wasn’t sure why she picked that name, as she expressed to Kate here, and to Mr. Eko in Season Two. Guess it’s another one of the “supposed to’s “.

Separate: (Nod to an email from Wray 8) ) ” He walks among us, but is not one of us” . Jack and Dogen have a little chat about leadership, much like he and Locke had in Season One’s ” White Rabbit”. Dogen speaks a different language than his people most of the time because it is easier when he has to give orders that they may not like. He must remain separate, like Jack needs to, if he is going to be leader once again.
Dogen also talks about them all being brought to the Island, just like Locke did “We were brought here…all of us. Each one of us was brought here…for a purpose, for a reason.” (Exodus, Season One)
During this time, there is talk of baseball, trust and Sayid being “claimed” (another term that is given for something that has no word, just like Ben said about “what you call ‘The Monster’ “.) You know…just like Jack’s SISTER!!! ( or is she?)

The word “safe” comes up ,at least once , in just about every episode of LOST. I have been wondering a long time as to why this is. So, with this revelation that “Claimed” means infected. So, does not being infected mean that you are ” Safe ” ? Were the drugs that Claire was being given by Ethan and the ones in the hatch, for keeping people “safe” as well?
Now, just have to figure out what being “marked” means. And with Jacob being dead now, is what happened with his touch ( possible “mark”) risk the Losties “safety”?

Individual:
Jin’s along for the trip to find Sawyer. But he’s really trying to forge his own path towards the Ajira plane to find Sun.

Eliminated : Hey! We got to see Aldo again. Turns out he’s The Others “Frogurt”. Gets shot with a gun instead of a flaming arrow. But why shoot Justin?! He was nice and had answers! He knew about Rousseau and Ajira. At the rate he was going, we probably could have found out who Adam and Eve were and where Claire hairbrush went off to!

Hermit :
Oh well. It looks like that “hairbrush” mystery has yet to be solved from the condition (or lack there of) of Claire’s coif. Danielle Rousseau : Gone but not forgotten. Her memory ( or is that, memories) are living on through Miss Littleton. And of all people to stumble upon in the jungle , it’s Jin (now, in a bear trap) just like in 1988.

Now, I’m going to try to sequester myself from any spoilers until I can reach for the remote to enjoy Episode 4 on Tuesday and prep for the LRNow with Mr. Heath Solo. 🙂

LOST Thoughts : 6/1 – LA X or The Temporal Triple Lutz ( Part Two)

Turn 2 : The Swan Hatch/The Temple

I’m going to keep this simple , like the ankh list. To sum up…

Kate – First to wake from flash/blast ( in a tree!) like Charlie was the first to leave the imploded hatch and also couldn’t hear. First to meet up with someone by falling on them ( Miles, just like she did with Charlie after running from Smokey for the first time) . First to find out where/when they were. First chooses to help unconscious Jack then unconscious Sawyer. First to go into the tunnels ( just like the Hatch in S2)
Jack – Broken man who just can’t seem to “fix” anyone, at least right now.
Sawyer – Broken man who wants to kill someone ( namely, Jack) but changes his mind. Rather watch him suffer in this life. From the look on Jack’s face, I think it’s working.

Juliet – Thought was dead but is alive. She said to Sawyer ” It didn’t work” , then talked about going dutch sometime for coffee. She wants to tell him something very important, then dies yet again… or at least, felt like it 😦
Miles- Knows what that very important message Juliet was going to say, now that she’s dead… ” It worked!”. Was she glancing (flash) sideways?
Jacob – Speaks to Hurley because he’s dead now. Old friend murdered him an hour ago. Some friend…
Hurley – Sees/Hears Jacob because he’s dead now. Knows how to ” fix” Sayid and knows what’s in the case but not what was in what was in the case ( Nama…wha? ).
Jin – Knew what Hurley was talking about when he was asked about the ” Hole in the Wall” ( at The Temple not Butch Cassidy’s gang) .
Sayid – Was dying, repented, drowned ( or was it “baptized” ? ), attempted to be revived, no use… no wait…he’s fine!

Some things that happened…
They were back at the Swan Hatch, circa 2004..ish. Whatever happened, happened… at least, here it did…somewhat.
We saw more of the tunnels
We heard more of the Whispers
We saw The Temple
We saw more of The Others ( dressed a lot like The Sheriff, Isabelle in SIASL)
We saw Others Cindy with a groovy headband, Zach and Emma
We saw what was in the guitar case. “It’s a giant ankh! Wow! I wonder how that plays into the mysterious worship practices of The Oth…NO! Wait…don’t do THAT *crack* … oh. Well, at least Jacob’s list faired better than Charlies’ Greatest Hits. ”
We saw a spring and a darkened, bloody pool. And how it doesn’t heal anymore. And a super-sized eggtimer. Did this help/hurt Sayid?
We saw that this Others leader doesn’t like our scrawny, New Yorker teen -like Losties, the taste of English on his tongue but digs trimming little trees. But it looks like the “warming up” stage is going to go awfully quick now that Jacob’s dead, the ash scattered and the warning flare’s been launched. And Smocke’s coming to “Sweep the leg!” of our Losties.

Which will bring us to Turn 3 : The Island/The Foot … To be continued. 🙂

LOST Parody: Kiss Me ( aka The Triangle Song)

Personally, the shipper stuff in LOST doesn’t really bother me. I just consider it all part of the story and character motivation. Just felt like having a little fun with the one that started it all. 🙂

(If you would like to listen to more LOST parodies, click here). 🙂

KISS ME ( aka The Triangle Song)

Kiss me
Out in The Jungle of Mystery
Nicely, and you’ll get that inhaler
Quickly… Shannon is getting worse
You should be glad that I’m not greedy

Oh, kiss me
Been tortured by an Iraqi
He beat me alongside Dr. Jack
Shoots are in my hands
Under my nails, threats to poke out my eye
Silver blade sparkling
So, kiss me

Kiss me
Blew up my family’s farmhouse
Oopsie! Just set my dad on fire
Treating Sawyer with mashed up fruit
He’s passed out but speaks in my father’s voice

Oh, kiss me
Cuz I just saw my horsie
Quickly… I think I’m crackin’ up
Hallucinating now
Strikes me that I’m not really the best judge
Daddy Issues happening
So, kiss me

Kiss me
Cuz we’re caged up like bunnies
No, me.. cuz I gave you a ring
Listen here, you three
Strikes me as you might be needing special help
Psych profiles pending
Therapy… therapy….
(Spoken: Please, for me? No? How about for Aaron? Clementine? No? Um…ok. )
Kiss me

(Parody of the song “Kiss Me ” by Sixpence None the Richer, Written by Matt Slocum, 1999, Album: Sixpence None the Richer, Squint Entertainment . New lyrics by Wendy Lincoln, 2008)

LOST Thoughts : Some Pre Season 6 Wacky Theories

Part of the fun of LOST is making theories: Large and small, serious and silly, and sharing them with each other. I had one of these exchanges a couple days ago with other fellow fans/podcasters. And I thought I’d post some ideas that I wrote here too. Some of these thoughts are built off of old theories. Some things just occurred to me now.

Locke’s Death

I’m still sticking with the Locke was strangled like his dad and was dead. Like “Dead is Dead” dead. My crackpot theory ( or just wishful thinking…lol) is just like he was healed before when he touched the Island, he will be again. But then we’d have two “Lockes” running around…kinda cheesy. But if this happens, somehow the writers will defy logic and make it cool…lol.

But then I came up with how they could do it. Locke falls out of the box. He touches the Island and is “healed”. Jacob’s Nemesis seems to need a dead body to do whatever it is to appear as John Locke. Once Locke is alive again, Nemesis’ actual identity is revealed ( and we might have Titus Welliver too for the rest of Season Six. Yay! 🙂 ) But it won’t happen until Walt’s ” You- were- standing- on- the- beach,- in- a -suit,- with- people- all- around- you, -wanting -to -hurt -you” Dream comes true… by way of Flock.

Christian’s Death and Recreation of Circumstances

However, I have always thought that Christian Shephard’s death was suspect.

When Christian saw Claire and told her that he had “ways” to help her mother die ( at least, that seemed to be the implication) , I’m guessing that he also had “ways” to appear dead and “come back to life”. And it might be through a method similar to the Medusa spider venom or a modification of it that he was able to create ( Seeing that he had most likely been on the Island before) .

He supposedly died from a massive heart attack brought on by drinking/getting in a fight with someone. But no autopsy scars?! ( Juliet’s ex husband got hit by a bus and they gave him an autopsy! 🙂 ) Also the guy who showed Jack his father dead body in the morgue …was also at the crash site. See man with white hair holding his arm, shouting ” Move away from the gas! ” ( Actor Geoff Heise) Hmmm… Wonder why he’d be there? I’m guessing it wasn’t for budgetary reasons. He had lines and wasn’t just someone in the background. Was this man an accomplice? Dr. FrankenShephard’s Igor? One can only hope. 😉

How about this : What if he was playing the role of “the dead guy” that needed to be on Flight 815 to get back to the Island just like Locke was playing his “role”? That Ajira 316 was not the first time “the circumstances of a flight having to be recreated as best as you can” ?

Ben’s Box

I’ve been thinking that the box was the box of chocolate with the gun that Sun received , along with the papers/ pictures of Jack and Ben near the van. Just like he did with the whole Kate & Aaron “lawsuit”, I think Ben gave them to Sun so she would come to him. Then Ben could show her Jin’s ring and get her back to the Island. And where did that gun go after Sun decided to go with Ben and Jack to see Ms. Hawking? Why into Ben’s pocket, of course, so he could go and take care of that promise he had made to a friend ( i.e. killing Penny…or at least he thought he was going to ) .

As mentioned above, these are wacky. Do with them what you will. 😉

LOST Parody : Have Yourself A Fishy Little Biscuit

This was the first LOST parody I’d ever written. I was going to send it into The LOST podcast with Jay and Jack for their Christmas episode way back in ’06… but I lost my voice for 2 weeks and couldn’t record it. So, I decided to brush the dust off it now and post it here. (It’s so old, there’s a ” Benry” reference 😉 ). This parody is about, who else, Mr. James ” Sawyer” Ford and his Bear Village treats. 🙂

(If you would like to listen to more LOST parodies, click here). 🙂
HAVE YOURSELF A FISHY LITTLE BISCUIT

Have yourself a fishy little biscuit
Glad your heart’s not fried
That pacemaker trouble was a Benry lie

Have yourself a fishy little biscuit
Karl and you’ll escape
Then act like The Others are just miles away ( You got tased )

Through the bars of a big bear cage
Full of pent up rage, I’m sure
Red button with its victor’s tune
Will deliver you the cure

Through the bars, you could escape together
If ol’ Kate allows
She won’t leave Jack
Now Pickett’s gun’s against your brow
So, have yourself a fishy little biscuit now

Kate won’t leave Jack
Now Pickett’s gun’s against your brow
So, have yourself a fishy little biscuit
Have yourself a fishy little biscuit
Have yourself a fishy little biscuit now

(Parody of the song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” Written Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, 1944, for the film Musical ” Meet Me in St. Louis” . New lyrics by Wendy Lincoln, 2006)

LOST Parody : My Favorite LOST Things

I wanted to do something for Thanksgiving and because LOST has been pushed back to February. But chin up… LOST will be here soon. In the meantime, some things to be thankful for… 🙂 ( My apologies, and total respect, to both Julie Andrews and Anna in Indiana.) 😉

(If you would like to listen to more LOST parodies, click here). 🙂

MY FAVORITE LOST THINGS

Raindrops on wreckage and whiskers on surgeons
Young rock stars kicking their heroin addictions
Locke telling Eko they’re puppets on strings
These are a few of my favorite LOST things

Cream colored jumpsuits and crisp Sawyer nicknames
Buttons and timers and Benjamin’s mind games
Wild Hurley Bird with the sun on its wings
These are a few of my favorite LOST things

Girls who knock boys out with just elbow smashes
Snowflake-like logos and subsequent hatches
Silver haired Ellie and Course Correcting
These are a few of my favorite LOST Things

Talk of end dates
And hiatus
Make me feel so sad
But I simply remember my favorite LOST things
And then I don’t feel so bad

Raindrops on wreckage and whiskers on surgeons
Young rock stars kicking their heroin addictions
Locke telling Eko they’re puppets on strings
These are a few of my favorite LOST things

Cream colored jumpsuits and crisp Sawyer nicknames
Buttons and timers and Benjamin’s mind games
Wild Hurley Bird with the sun on its wings
These are a few of my favorite LOST things

Girls who knock boys out with just elbow smashes
Snowflake-like logos and subsequent hatches
Silver haired Ellie with Course Correcting
These are a few of my favorite LOST Things

Talk of end dates
And hiatus
Make me feel so sad
But I simply remember my favorite LOST things
And then I don’t feel so bad

LOST Thoughts : It’ll Come Back Around

mswendygravitar8 I was staying up way too late the other night and caught the Season 3 episode ” The Brig” on HD ( Why do I do this? I own all the seasons and can watch them at anytime! I guess there’s just something special about stumbling onto a program. ) Maybe because of the hour I started deducing this theory that can account for its ridiculousness. And yet, here I am, writing about it anyway.

In this episode, lost-sawyer-t1Sawyer finally does in the elusive “original recipe” Sawyer, Anthony Cooper… the man he sees as the one who ruined his life, by strangling him with a chain. This is because Cooper’s son, John Locke, cannot. But it’s assumed, Locke would if he could. ben-t13Benjamin Linus, kills Mr. Cooper’s son, lost-locke-t1John Locke… the man he perceives who ruined his life, in a similar manner with an extension cord ( Season 5, ” The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham”) . In turn, will Ben die, like Roger Linus, in an incident much like ” The Purge” ?

In the Season 3 finale, lost-jack-t2Jack Shephard is just about to make a suicidal move by throwing himself off a bridge in a drunken stupor, when he is stopped short by an accident on the road behind him. christianshephard-tChristian Shephard, died in a suicidal drunken binge and threw himself into a fight he probably knew he couldn’t win (or at least, that’s what we were told).

So, this got me thinking… is this how things will end for the Losties? Will each of their demises ( if they take place) mirror those of their fathers/parents? Will Sawyer end up in a murder/suicide, possibly with lost-kate-t1Kate as his wife ? And will she die the same way as she killed her father i.e. in some kind of premeditated explosion?

There is another side to this scenario…

We saw lost-charlie-t1Charlie’s mom in one episode but in ” Greatest Hits” she wasn’t there, especially noticeable absence during The Paces holiday/swimming lesson. Liam named his baby girl after Charlie and his mom in ” Fire + Water”. The way they spoke it sounded like she was no longer alive. Had Megan Pace given her life, possibly even in a sacrificial way, for her son(s) ? ( This is purely speculative…but it would be cool if we found that to be true somehow in Season Six).

David and Carmen are still around. So, does this bode well for lost-hurley-tHugo?

Pierre Chang sent his son and wife away knowing that they would despise him, if it would save their lives. miles-tMiles finds out who his dad is and what he did for him. Miles, in turn, puts himself in a place of rejection by telling Pierre he is a time traveler to save his life ( and later, physically does rescue his father).

Does this work in reverse? Will Eloise get shot like she shot danielfaraday-tDaniel?

In this respect, is it fate or living by example?

I know… I know… I need to get more sleep. 😉

LOST Thoughts : Army Island Pictures

mswendygravitar8

Listening to the latest “Keys To LOST” podcast hiatus episode , Matt brought up some unsolved mysteries sent in by Stefany Mac of Lostaholics blog. They were all really thought provoking reminders of how much we still have yet to discover the answer to ( or that the likelihood that some of them may remain “Unsolved”). But one in particular caught my attention. ” How did the Army discover the Island and get those photos of if it is so hard to find?”

Ms. Hawking was there when the US Army came in 1954 . The Hostiles eliminated the soldiers and took their uniforms and weapons ( one of which is most likely the knife Ana Lucia had in ” The Other 48 Days”, Season 2). Eloise might have taken those photos with her to the ” real world” and perhaps gave them to the “smart young man” who built The Lamppost.

Then it hit me… Granddad Ray!

I have a hunch that Eldest Shephard may have been a surviving member from the Army that located the Island back in the 1950’s and has been trying to get back ever since? Or he might be someone on ” The Mainland” that spearheaded operations and/or kept track of what was happening, much like Sam Toomey and Leonard Simms? Then again, he could be a Hostile who posed as a soldier out of necessity, much like lost-eko-tMr. Eko posing as a priest?

Ray’s grandson, lost-jack-t2Jack has been shown as somewhat incompetent in all things jungle. He can’t track. We are told on a few occasions that he keeps walking in circles. But in ” The Hunting Party”, lost-locke-t1Locke informs lost-sawyer-t1Sawyer and Jack that he lost lost-michael-t1Michael’s trail when they went looking for him. ” You don’t just LOSE a trail, John!” How would he know that ?!

And then there is Dr. Jack’s skills with a gun. Caught in a net? No problem. One shot and he and lost-kate-t1Kate hit the ground.

Maybe like Kate learned from her father Sam Austen ( another Sam in the military, Toomey the other one ) maybe Jack was educated by his granddad, Ray in survivalist tactics? In the fine LOST tradition… Jack’s just not telling anyone.

Maybe it’s just me and my wishful thinking that Granddad Ray is more involved than “accidently” having a pair of christianshephard-tChristian’s shoes ( despite the quality footwear’s significance) 🙂 .
